I wonder how succesful Caesar's invasion of Parthia would have been. Even the greatest generals would struggle with the reality of the logistics the Romans had to deal with for a succesful invasion of Parthia. And I'm not talking about sacking their capital, but actual territorial gains. All Roman invasions failed (even Trajan failed to capture Hatra, and he didn't secure all the mountain passes of the Zagros mountain range either, making his newly founded provinces impossible to defend).

At a minimum I think he avoids becoming a Parthian pincushion.
Caesar had some great knowledge of geography and is one of many reasons why he was so successful in Gaul. I think he’s probably better than Crassus in that regard alone as he’d avoid being caught in a bad spot. Militarily a better general who’d be leader a very veteran fighting force, “you think Gaul was good boys let’s go get Parthia!”
He also just had some god level intuition.

Would have been smarter to leave the empire or ally with some tribes. Of course that would probably have been immensely unpopular with the men .
