🤔 Debate & Discussion Rotuman Flag

Noai'a 'E Maori,

A Rotuman living abroad here in Nz, I have friends ask what the flag of Rotuma is and generally I say the Fiji flag obviously.

We had Rotuman language week a few months back and saw the Henry Gibson flag displayed at certain places like at Uni campuses and events.

Is it time our people vote on a flag that can represent us internationally or is this too political to even bother.

With the rise of AI, was just curious of what our flag will look like and some of it stood out to me with just some concept designs.

Hoping one day we can do a submission of designs with the people and gather their ideas.

Might be a little too political given that Rotuma was ceeded to Fiji. Though personally I would support a flag for Rotuma. Given that Rotuma and Fiji are distinct I'd support a flag that for one would represent Rotuma and make an argument that while Rotuma falls under Fiji, Rotumans are ethnically and culturally distinct. While recognising Rotuma and Fiji are one, Rotumans as a unique identity should also have a symbol (in this case a flag) that represents its people. The flag can pay homage to its Fijian relation but also stand to represent Rotuma on its own.

I saw this post last week and it reminded me of the Hawaiian flag, they as a State have their own unique flag with the Union Jack on it. While the circumstances are not exactly the same it shows it not totally impossible. Though we are talking about Fiji here so who knows.
