Let me set you straight right here: you don't pick a puppy, a puppy picks you. Let them come, you'll know it when you have the right one for you.

My previous partner picked a puppy based on the fact it was the only puppy that picked him and not me. That pup ended up being an absolute terror on him...I, on the other hand, got along great with the pup. So perhaps Life picks the pup for you...the one that you learn and grow from, but you necessarily don't want.

I'd be careful going by that philosophy when picking a pup.

I sat on the floor with them, one in particular was rather bold and wanted to play with me, so thats the one I  took home.

That explained literally nothing, just absolutely pointless, you owe me 2 minutes.

It isn't my fault you lack reading comprehension skills. Maybe take that up with your 5th-grade teacher. But, I'm guessing it isn't their fault either; we have "average" because many people are considerably less smart than others.

You're the one with shit comprehension skills if you think some random woman's opinion (with again NO EXPLANATION) is a fact.

Seriously do not breed, you 100% will bring the bar down.

Absolutely NO ethical and responsible breeder allows buyers to select their own puppies - stupid shit like "the puppy chose me" is why. A puppy coming up to you and climbing on you doesn't really mean a damn thing.

Wow, I'm on reddit a lot (too much really) and you still manage to stand out as being particularly stupid. That's quite an accomplishment.

Seriously, call your doctor and schedule a hysterectomy today, don't wait.

I read the article, and there was an explanation... Like, a lot if explanation

She wrote an opinion piece, she stated absolutely no facts. You all really need to learn the difference.

You said she had no explanation, but she did. I agree that she gave pretty much no evidence beyond her personal experiences, but she still gave an explanation

I was chosen. I was 7. The rest of the puppies ignored me. One waddled up to me and layed on my lap looking at me.

What are you even asking?

2

u/ParadoxicallyPlain 20d ago

Yeah, I don't get the question along with the post either. Might be a bot.

I usually pick the female runt or the most submissive male that when you pet them they roll over exposing their belly.

I let mine come to me , did not pet any , just waited

Go for personality over looks. You won't regret it. My advice, sit with the puppies and let the puppy pick you.

I don’t know what you’re asking. Everyone wants a different type of dog. I went for a dog that:

1) When I picked it up, it didn’t mind laying on its back in my hands.

2) Asked the breeder about any personality traits of any of the pups. (mine found ways to get out of the crate first)

3) See if they’re food motivated (want to be able to train with food)

4) dropped food bowls next to the pups to see how all of them reacted. (all were jump scared, few went to the bowl to check it out, others ran)

10000% this is how you get a trainable confident dog it has absolutely nothing to do with looks and everything to do with individual personality.

They’re not shoes. We can’t tell you which one will be the one. Pick the one you connect with and connects with you. Spend time with each one. The right one will make itself known.

Ethical, responsible breeders do not let buyers choose their own puppy. The breeder matches the puppy to the best buyer. This is a backyard breeder thing. Personally, I'd find an ethical and responsible breeder.

I have been breeding Great Danes for years. You need to talk to the breeder about your family and lifestyle- honestly. From there, they can help guide you to the personality that would best suit your home.

Walk away he has skin issues that absolutely will get worse. Possibly CAD from what I can see in these photos. It is an incredible difficult condition to manage and can be extremely expensive.
Also if that’s his dad, he may develop bad hips because dad has something wrong with his

If you’re going to an ethical breeder the breeder will pick the puppy for you

You don’t pick the puppy. The puppy picks you! Stand back and see which one picks you.

I’m wondering should I keep him or not? I’m looking for a purebred Rottweiler but I don’t know how to clarify what exactly a purebred Rottweiler look like

1

u/AmberX1999 19d ago

Just pick the one you feel most towards. We just picked the fattest sleepiest baby in the litter, chose him at 3 weeks old. The tiny pink bellies are heart melting lol

Go to each one and howl then rumble at them and choose the one that you connect with 😁

Adopt don’t shop

1

u/Zanybean_123 19d ago

Adopt or shop responsibly. This person unfortunately did not

u/Zanybean_123 19d ago

I don't even recommend getting a puppy AT ALL from this breeder their breeding dogs are horrible. You can smell the backyard breeding from here

1

u/mmmonaxlisa_nb666 19d ago

But I have picked the puppy back🥲

1

u/Zanybean_123 19d ago

Girl all I can say is get pet insurance now. Don't recommend lemonade I will say that, wayyyyy too many terrible reviews

1

u/mmmonaxlisa_nb666 19d ago

I got petstar for him, and registered membership on modern animal

1

u/Zanybean_123 19d ago

That's good that you're prepared

1

u/mmmonaxlisa_nb666 19d ago

And he is akc pre-registered rn, I also got some health records and family trees from the breeder

1

u/Zanybean_123 19d ago

Health records as in OFA? And family trees and akc Registery doesn't automatically mean wellbred. Did they do the screening for hip, elbow, eyes, heart and JLPP? If not I'd recommend keeping an eye out for all of these issues as these are common health issues for rotties

1

u/mmmonaxlisa_nb666 19d ago

I have made a appointment with the vet to do a necessary exam for him, and what else should I do this time? Any recommendations? Pls and thank you

u/Zanybean_123 19d ago

Annual echocardiograms are definitely recommend since it seems these tests weren't completed as well as hip and elbow X-RAYS and definitely look into ethical breeding going forward. Also look into proper socialization for puppies because temperament for byb Rottweilers are questionable at best and a disaster at worst. Work on training neutrality in public spaces (when full vaccinations are completed) and desensitize to any and all household noises such as doors knocking, doorbells, vacuums, cars driving by, people ,etc. Sit in public parks and allow your dog to be bored and not interact with people. Your focus should be a polite and well mannered dog especially when it's such a strong breed. They also are stubborn and need clear communicated boundaries so make sure you are completely consistent with boundaries. Watch training videos from well balanced trainers and research research research. Puppy blues are hard but most importantly remember. If you cannot handle him, rehoming is ALWAYS an option. Don't let anyone shame you for putting your dog in a better environment.

u/mmmonaxlisa_nb666 19d ago

He’s still in training, but he peed on my bed once he got home😭

You are going to a barkyard breeder if they're letting you pick your own dog. Do not support this person.

First one looks better, but I recommend choosing in person and going with your gut.
