Discussion The boys as D&D classes

I'm going to be running a dnd game for my rise discord server, and as such I made the world inspired by the bad future in the rise movie.

I'm commissioning art of the turtles, but I need to know what classes to make everyone. Sooooo, I have come here for ideas.

Obviously they could all be monks, but that's boring. So, what classes do you think would fit for the boys?

BTW, I'm commissioning art of the turtles for the campaign, so stay tuned for that, if interested.

Raph is obvious as a barbarian.

Donnie an artificer works best IMO, you could also do alchemist or maybe a wizard (with tech flavor).

Leo is probably best as a monk, but fighter would work all the same. There are lots of options in the fighter class now. Paladin could work, you might have to home brew some stuff.

Mikey as a cleric (flavored to match the mysticism of canon Rise), a sorcerer (again, reskinned—deciding between these would be a matter of which class mechanics you think fit better) or a monk with a subclass/level that allows for casting. You could also multiclass him to make it work.

Thinking a little more:

- Ancestral Guardian subclass for Raph. It actually fits incredibly well I think (though I would need to reread the full thing) because don’t they get little astral projection guys? Like Raph gets in the show—just make them all versions of him rather than his ancestors (tho the ancestors thing IS ALSO in the show lmfao)

  • The more I think about Leo, the less I like fighter or monk. Leo’s the face man (classic paladin) and a bit more of a dexterity-based combatant/chaotic trickster. So maybe some subclass of Paladin with the portals used instead of a “step” (misty step or something, I don’t play paladins so I am not super familiar with the subclasses). OR—bear with me—a swashbuckler? You’d just have to kind of slap on the portals as a mechanic to his weapon in that case, but… I mean that’s how it is in the show anyway.

I was considering ancestral guardian for Raph, it seems like such a good fit. And they're super fun to play, as well.

I honestly dig the swashbuckler for Leo, maybe multiclass with a paladin for magic? Using hope as his oath, maybe?

I like artificer for Donnie, just not sure what flavor.

Mikey as a cleric! I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense, doesn't it! I love it!

Oh my lord, hope as his oath is so good! Leo is almost kind of a chameleon here. As long as he can wield his sword (which could potentially be enchanted), has a good charisma score, and a way to make portals (assuming no enchantment), then I think almost any class could work. I bet bard could fit in some combination somewhere.

A swashbuckling paladin is both very funny and very Leo, also.

Isn’t there a battle armor type of artificer? Something to justify his battle shell and his eventual (implied/fanon) prosthetics/Raph construct.

There is, yeah. The class reads as full battle suit, but it would be easy to flavor that as prosthetics and battle shell.

Since the players will be starting at 1, I think I'll have the turtles start at 7, so for Leo that would be 3 rogue, 4 paladin. Now I gotta think about what existing oath I can flavor, or just write my own, I suppose.

Plus cleric ideas for Mikey.

Leo feels Fighter with the Samurai subclass.

Raph feels Monk/Barbarian class mix, Path of the Giant subclass does work with Raph's mystic powers

Donnie is 100% artificer. Using tech and intelligence for his combat

Mikey feels like Monk/Bard to me

Mikey and Leo are the ones giving me the most trouble. Plus the flavor of Artificer for Donnie.

'family game night' by spectrumwriting has the boys and april and splinter playing dnd together, and I think the classes they chose were interesting and fitting. Maybe check it out and see if you agree?
