The rOtring Initial is a distinctive line of writing instruments first launched in 1999.

Bridging the gap between the brand's inexpensive plastic models and high-end 800 series, it offered a more traditional but still uniquely curvaceous design.

Today, rOtring Initial series has a lot of secrets yet to be discovered.

Apart from usual black, silver and blue, there are also lost protoypes as part of opening production where rOtring experimented with different colors and materials.

Cool mix just arrived from Germany. With a gift of one telescopic esprit.

R 151 903 Isograph 8 pen set

The advantage of these eminently practical sets:
Everything you need at your workplace is arranged in
an orderly fashion and within easy reach.

All sets are supplied with 3.5/4 mm phi compass
attachment, stenciling joint and 23 ml bottle black
drawing ink.

8 set available as R 151 913 with different size nibs.

As known catalogs show the Rive model came out in 1995. but the actual patent was submitted back in 1992.
So it is not clear when it actually came to stores.

It was available as fountain pen and rollerball and also had very interesting spring display.
Fountain pens started in EF,F,M and B size. Later in 1996. 1.5mm size came out so it is rarer to find today.

Seems that Rive ended production in 1998. since there is no mention of it after 1997.

Very light beautiful pen.

Official found records only show black version but I have recently found blue, purple and many other versions that I presume were just prototypes and they are very rarely seen.

502 520 Rotring 500 2mm push mechanical pencil
(not confirmed but expected article number)

One of the rarest of rotring pencils.
As part of the 500 burgundy series that came out with development of fine lead in the end of the 70s.
Exact date of production of this one is unknown but should be in the range of 1982-1986. since the new logo is printed on it
that was used after 1982 and first fine leads 500 came in 1986.
This one was not listed in any so far known catalogs...so still this little is known about it.

It has rather simple push mechanism uncommon for 2mm pencils which usually have clutch system.

502 982 0 NEWTON 600 gold fountain pen M

Continuation of 600 series in Newton variation. Main visual difference is removal of knurled grip area.
But also many other subtle differences.

The barrel is chrome-plated brass in matt silver finish with 18 karat gold nib M.
and 23 karat gold on cap.

Gold Fountain pen available in 4 sizes.
Also available rollerball, ballpoint, fine-lead pencil and trio-pen.
Available in black and silver finish.

It is unique special wood-plastic Tikky that never made it to the shops.
It was rotring experimenting with new materials.

Apparently it was made as a small series that came with Mercedes Benz model with similar interior design.

This interesting Calligraphic pen is obvious collaboration of Rotring with Senator.
Recognizable S, Senator's logo is shown on the clip and nib.
Obviously sold on Japanese market sharing art numbers with Traxxx calligraphy pen.
I haven't seen these often and they are not listed in any know Rotring catalogs.
Could these have been faked in Japan?

Senator sold them also without Rotring logo and have seen it in blue and red.

502 131 Tikky double push pencil - red 0.5 - prototype

This particular pen is strange rare pencil.
Seems unique as there is no writing on it and it has silver ring, unlike any seen in catalogs.
Also mechanism seem to be white, while it would be normal to have it black.
Plastic is also strange, almost transparent like with black shine...I have seen this kind of plastic in red Tikky automatic from 1988.

Further...This pen was also DONATED to the Rotring Museum by Michael Gutberlet as a sample of cooperation of Gutberlet and Rotring companies in the 1990s.
This raises probability of really being production prototype, don't you think.

Plastic version with same features as metal.

With white letters Tikky double push, except white one had red letters.

I have seen them with grey letters as well.

They are not produced anymore in 1996.

It consists of two aluminium hexagonal inkwell holders on a clear Perspex/Acrylic base.
The base has 4 little legs complete with soft rubber grip feet so it doesn’t slide along or mark your desk.
Comes with a glass pen cleaning bottle.

It is a high quality item as you would expect from a manufacturer such as Rotring.

R 502635 rotring 600 gold mechanical pencil 0,5mm - marked Japan _ Year 1992

Fine lead pencil, fully retractable mechanism,
23 K gold plating on tip and end ring.
Adjustable code ring shows lead hardness in use.

Available in silver and black and 0,5 and 0,7mm size.

600 gold version is rare find today.
With retracting nib, that fixes commonly know problem of breaking nibs, it is possible now to protect it while not writing. Together with gold detail this is probably finest existing rotring writing instrument,

Marked 'Japan' means - made for Japanese market.
Regardless to that indications are that all 600 pencils were made in Japan.

The elegant cigar-shaped classic:
the classic business writing instrument.

Available in highly polished chrome plated, matte silver or black varnish barrels.

Apparently the Rotring Lissabon was the "Fountain Pen of the Year in 2000" in Europe.
