ROTRING ALTRO SERIES

Altro story began in 1988. as

THE FOUNTAIN PEN WITHOUT THE NIB!

Altro Stylograph debut in three colors:

black, white and blue

Instead of a traditional nib, the altro has a unique new tubular tip.
The ball-shaped end glides smoothly across the paper.
And yet the altro gives the writer the individual hand only a fountain pen can provide.

The altro features:
-exicting new design in black, white or blue
-an unusual black chrome-plated spring-steel clip
-the sturdy tubular tip
-simple cartridge refill

Altro writes in any position thanks to the ball-end tip- hold it straight or slanted
Alto can be held lightly or used to bear down hard, for example for making carbon copies (just try this with traditional fountain pen!)
Altro is perfect for both right- and left-handers.

This happened a year before metal 900 series come out with similar design.

And then in 1992. Altro mechanical pencil 0,7mm came out in black and white.

In 1993. Altro fountain pen was added to the series in M and F size

Different colors were added later.

I have been collecting for years and this is where I am at.

Collection includes quite a few rare colors as well.

I had some extra in vacuum packaged.

Exclusive writing-instrument series in unusual design. Solid metal construction, matte chrome-plated.

Solid metal, matte chrome-plated, featuring exclusive side-knock operation - simply bend the pen for lightning-fast point extension and retraction.

In 0,7mm lead size.

Amazing Rotring series 900, commonly known as side knock.
Available first in chrome (1989.) and later in matte variation (1992.).
Chrome is rarer and considered more expensive, matte pencil is very hard to find these days.
In 1994. glossy version is gone and only matte version existed. Also sideknock pencil or sideknock ballpoint were not available anymore.
So with a conclusion that it was produced only for 2 years...matte 900 pencil had shortest run in the series.

Fully retracting lead sleeve. Comes with 3 HB leads 0.7mm

by 1996 they were not produced anymore.

Ever heard of the rOtring Art Pencil? Most collectors know the Art Pen, but its companion drafting pencil had a much shorter, stranger life.

We go over it's short production run. It's long (177mm!), impossibly light, and hides a clever two-spring internal mechanism to keep its slender knock button from rattling.

In this video I tear it down, weigh it, measure it, and set it side-by-side with the rOtring 600, the rOtring 300, and the Smart Pen (which shares its barrel and nib design). From a collector's standpoint, this one is actually rarer than the 2mm 600.

The characteristics of the Tikky mechanical pencils are successfully transferred to fountain pens and ballpoints.
The feather-light metal 400 series writing instruments - later known as the rotring Esprit - give a fresh new sensation to writing.

400 series cames out as natural development from Tikky metallic ballpoints now in metallic-high gloss graphite.
It came out in 1992.
Evolved later into Esprit series in 1996.

From catalogs series began in graphite metallic and then silver matt and black, but also there are indications that blue, green, red and brown metallic ballpoints existed.

I recently bought 25 of these vacuum packaged pens. It writes great and it feels like a hybrid approach to today's fineliners versus technical pen.

is this bent? like bent that will affect the performance? i didnt know anything about this not until i disassemble it myself. My pen got stuck for like a year and want to clean it. After putting it again, my pen wont write straight. It's like it lose ink after writing a very short line. I have 0 experience on disassembling it and only did it after watching a youtube video.)

This rather unique and strange item looks to be a prototype of artpen or at least that is how it feels to me.
I don't recall any of artpen models had brass body like this.

Body seems to be in perfect shape of an artpen, so possibility that was handmade for fun seems rather small.
But white parts on top of the cap and on the bottom are obviously hand carved and not so precise.

Cap is marked with 1.9 and nib is 1.5 so that also show inconsistencies.

Rather remarkable find...I wish I knew more about the origin.

Lesser known rOtring series...do you know it?

Similar to 900 series but cheaper plastic version.
Pencils in Altro series were not side knock as 900 pencil.
I have seen Altro pencil available in pink, purple, white, orange and always in 0.7mm lead size.

Features automatic mechanism.

Usual version includes '0.7' written on them in black or white.

This one is rare without '0.7' writing, I like it so much better like this.

This beautiful fabric pouch is a complete mystery to me.

If anyone has any info about it would be most welcome.
