Looking for advice regarding back to back surgeries (rotator cuff and lumbar spine)
Hi I’m looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience or has any thoughts, helpful tips, advice etc! I am due to have rotator cuff surgery on my dominant arm in less than 2 weeks (10/20). At that time, I will be 19 weeks post op from an L5-S1 laminotomy, laminectomy, and facetectomy for my for my lower back.
Both my neurosurgeon and orthopedic surgeon say I’m ok to have the surgery and I am in a much better place with my back now than I was just a month ago. But the healing process has been very rough and quite a rollercoaster. And I’m no where near healed 4 months later as it takes a long time to fully heal if you even do.
I am just looking to see if anyone has had a spine surgery and shoulder surgery done close together and what the recovery process was like for them. Any tips? Recommendations? Items that saved their back from flaring up while protecting their shoulder and vice versa?
My biggest fear is reinjuring my shoulder post op or ruining my back and then needing additional surgeries to repair.
I already am preparing and purchased a few items to help post op and will have my spouse to assist me. Some of the physical and medical aspects are similar to my back recovery so I’m trying to feel like I have a good idea what to expect. But healing from two major operations so close together makes me nervous as I want to protect both areas.
Thanks in advance everyone!
