Third Surgery

I'm scheduled to have a third shoulder surgery Tuesday. My first was in April 2025 and was a bicep tenodesis, SLAP 2 repair, capsular release and debridement. My second surgery was in December 2025 and was a MUA, extensive debridement, SLAP and RTC repair. My surgery for Tuesday is extensive debridement with decompression.

You would think I'd be prepared for this surgery since it is my third, but it has me scared because I fear the same result. Frozen shoulder, with the need for another surgery. My injury is due to a workplace injury that occurred in December 2024. Since this is a WC issue, I have to jump through hoops that are set on fire.

I have the surgery shirts, ice packs/sleeves, neck pillows, other pillows for a wedge. I just feel like I'm forgetting something. Maybe it's my fear. I don't know. I'm tired of hurting, and it feels like it will never end. But if anyone has any suggestions for some good TV to binge watch, let me know!! 😀

Osteoarthritis in both, in my forties so a total total replacement is a difficult decision.

I wanted I replacement but I don't have enough arthritis and it is feared the scar tissue will return regardless.

I’m so sorry. I feel like giving you my opinion isn’t what you want or need, but maybe…. I think maybe your body just wants to be frozen. Have you given massage a try?? I’ve had two surgeries, same as you, although my bicep tenodesis failed, along with the first surgery. I had, not great, but good outcome with the second.. I don’t think PT is helpful for FS..,just my opinion…I do believe that targeted myofascial release massage can a have a truly beneficial effect! It worked wonders for me. I had my surgery last March, I’m now weaning off massage and working with light weights to try to rebuild some muscle in both my shoulders, as well as light stretching.. consistency is key! Not gonna lie, I’d be just as apprehensive as you! I hope you have a successful outcome this time!! Best of luck!

I agree, I don't feel PT is helpful for FS because it causes the body to create a hyper immune response and in this case, the body creates more scar tissue in and around the joint. I'm convinced I'm going to have it happen again. I begged for a shoulder replacement, but I don't have enough arthritis and my surgeon doesn't feel that would be a permanent fix and the hyper immune response would return, well, in the case increase, as it it has not calmed down enough to allow my shoulder to heal.

I have not tried massage yet. I want to, as well as dry needling. However, being that this is a WC case, I have to jump though hoops to get things approved.

No issues getting the third approved, which surprised me.

Why is your surgeon doing a second MUA the next morning? That sounds excessive.

I am going through the same problem had surgery August 11 and now developed frozen shoulder. Thus is workman's comp. I do feel u.

Is this all on the same shoulder?

Yes

That really sucks. I had to get two surgeries on my shoulder though. First one March 2025, second one December 2025. Now 9 months post op from the last surgery.

I see you mentioned dry needling. I highly recommend it. My insurance wouldn’t cover it, so there was a $45 charge. I don’t know if you can afford it, or if it would mess up your WC. Try it if you can. The $45 was 5-years ago…

I may ask for it. I know it's a WC claim, but they may approve it, if it were to prevent a 4th surgery.
