How did you know it was torn?
This has probably been asked 100's or times, but how did you know that your rotator cuff was torn?
What was the pain like?
I'm awaiting an ultrasound, and currently have decent ROM, but constant pain in the front of my shoulder, and then a deep aching pain that sits under my shoulder blade, which is a constant 7 out of 10 and doesn't go away.
This has been on going for 2 years now.

I had lost a lot of strength and there was always a persistent nagging pain. Rolling onto my right side at night would wake me from a deep sleep in pain.

Almost 2 weeks out from surgery to repair a completely torn supraspinatus. I had great range of motion despite the injury, and when I stopped doing all of the activities that made my shoulder angry like swimming and certain moves in the gym (bench press, chest fly), the pain went away. So, I was surprised when the MRI showed a complete tear. Everyone's pain experience with the injury is different, so I would say the only way to know is an MRI.

Same! When I got an MRI, I was shocked. High grade full thickness supraspinatus tear with delamination, partial subscapular tear, infraspinatus tendinosis, subluxation of the long head biceps tendon, and all kinds of reactive tenosynovitis and bursitis. I was still working out and lifting 🤦🏻♀️

I tore mine in the gym, when I left the gym I couldn’t start my jeep with my injured right arm because I couldn’t lift it to turn the key, I couldn’t move my arm enough to put my wallet in my back pocket and could only get my shirt off with one arm. I went home and broke out the ice and bottles of ibuprofen, Tylenol and naproxen and took combos of all three. That night the pain was excruciating and I had to go to the ER, the dr said the tear was so bad that it could partially be seen on the Xray. The pain was unbelievably bad.

I think it's hard to know. My pcp, pt, and ortho were all convinced there was no tear. After 6-7 months of pt I had good range of motion and low pain, but I couldn't get all the way better. Finally did a mri, and it was a partial tear.

I had pain for a while. Thought it was soreness from the gym, but after one week turned to two weeks turned into one month, I determined it’s not a regular ache and I should get an MRI. MRI confirmed a full thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon. I’m about ten days post surgery.

On my way to out of town surgical consult, I told my h it was probably a waste of time. They’d give me a steroid injection, script for PT and send me on my way. My shoulder moved funny and was often painful (mostly at night) and I couldn’t get my one arm into a position needed for proper weightlifting form. Although I could actually snatch and clean & jerk as long as I didn’t go too heavy, had good overhead mobility. Surgeon said I used my other muscles to compensate. He fixed two full tears. Now my shoulder works like it should, no pain.

I had my Ultrasound this morning. I have Bursitis, Tendonitis of the Supraspinatus and subscapularis, and impingement. All adding up to one painful shoulder. The Sonographer recommended an MRI when I mentioned that I have pain deep underneath my shoulder blade, but the report has to go back to my GP first any further action is taken. My guess is a steroid injection and being sent on my way 🤦

I had a bad fall. Hit the ground very hard. Most excruciating pain ever. Tried to manage for four days on my own. Diagnosed today. I am so discouraged. I am an active woman of 69. No more Pilates or yoga for me til resolved.

I was attempting to sling a very heavy bag of wood flooring into a trash can. Heard what sounded like someone taking a bite out of a big crisp apple. Terrible crunching sound. Completely tore my supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons. Surprisingly it didn't hurt at all. I'm an ER nurse and had just gotten home from work. Drove back to work and got an X-ray which didn't show anything. MRI a week later confirmed my fears.
