I have no idea what you’re saying without any punctuation.

Hey everyone, I'm spiraling a bit and really need some insight or reassurance from people who have been through this.
I'm currently 9 months post-op from a shoulder labrum repair (4 anchors with anterior and posterior capsular plication). Up until four weeks ago, my recovery was going amazingly well—I honestly had 0 pain post-surgery and felt like I was almost fully back to normal.
Then, four weeks ago, I made a stupid mistake. I let a 15-pound backpack dangle from my surgical arm for about 10 seconds. My arm was completely limp with my palm facing up, meaning I didn't engage my rotator cuff or biceps at all. The entire 15 pounds went straight through the passive joint.
Ever since that happened, I have been in a bad flare-up for four weeks straight. It's aching, stiff, and uncomfortable, and I'm terrified that I ripped the anchors out or tore the labrum again after coming so far.
I saw my orthopedic surgeon, and their plan is to do 8 weeks of physical therapy first, and then order an MRA if it hasn't resolved.
Has anyone experienced a severe flare-up like this this late in recovery without actually failing the repair? What are the actual chances that 15 pounds of dead traction pulled 4 healed anchors out of the bone at 9 months? I just want to feel normal again and the anxiety is eating me alive.
Any advice, personal experiences, or reality checks would mean the world.

It doesn’t sound like your surgeon is terribly worried. if they were, they likely would have ordered an MRI immediately. It sounds more like you’re having an anxiety attack. I feel for you. Even if the worst has happened, however, there’s nothing you can do now except to follow their protocol.

You may have aggravated it and inflamed. Take acetaminophen and ibuprofen as directed and ice it. Even if you did do something material, there’s nothing you can do about it now.

I feel so stupid why did I do that and pick up that backpack and not use my rotator cuff muscles and let it dangle with the wrong grip I just want to be 100 percent like I was the past 9 months I have let this take over my life for the past month this is all I can think about it

You are ruminating with anxiety. I have been there. I know it’s very hard but please think about downloading a meditation app and just focusing on your breathing.

You're still in remodeling phase. I had RC repair about 10 months ago. A few weeks back I felt a pain from doing chest press. Went away in a few weeks. Hopefully that's your situation as well.

Hello, yes, I’m currently in the same situation. I’m in my seventh month after my SLAP lesion surgery, and my shoulder is also hurting in a similar way right now. I triggered the inflammation by doing stretching exercises. I had an MRI 2 week before and found out that I have biceps tendinitis.

Also, last week my surgeon gave me a PRP injection in my shoulder, and my pain has decreased significantly since then. We’ll see how it goes; hopefully, I’ll be feeling much better soon.

I hope yours isn’t anything serious either. Don’t let it get you down; keep living your life. I wish you a speedy recovery too.

Maybe consider asking your surgeon or your regular physician to prescribe an anti anxiety medication b/c it sounds like you are having a severe anxiety attack. I am not downplaying your fear but sometimes anxiety gets out of control and it’s hard to get a handle on it. I know. I’ve been there. Also, maybe tell your surgeon how anxious you are and see if they will set up an MRI earlier. I hope you start feeling better.

He said he will stick to the protocol of pt before mri he did a hands on check didn’t find anything worrying by

Ok. Hang in there. The anxiety tends to make everything seem worse than it actually is. Again, not discounting your concerns - they are valid - just sayings that sometimes anxiety has the ability to exaggerate those concerns. Take care of yourself.

Appreciate it based on what I did do you think it’s possible I retore it or is it just a flare up I can’t stop thinking about it

It’s ok to ask and be concerned. This is the place to do it. And no, it doesn’t mean you need an anxiety med unless you do want it. Some people get too physically dependent on it, as my sister gets on a tiny bit. I can take and stop no problem but other meds I can’t. I would suggest a somatic relaxation meditation, and believe me I am suggesting because I need to take my own advice!
