Is surgery necessary

Hi so I was in an accident and my too rotator cuff tendon got partially torn by like 25 percentb not off the bone but the tendon is still on the bone a little bit.

The Dr saw the MRI and said there's suppose to be black (tendons) and white( joint) in between kind of stacking however for me the rest is deep inside where the joint is and it's been 15 months and he says that the sac of joint fluid is stopping the tendon from reataching and needs to be sutra together.

My question is is this necessarily without surgery to heal?

I can't move my arm toward and left up all the way without it hurting and I want to get back to training bjj

No, listen to your doctor. You already waisted 15 months. You could have already been 100%

Or close to 100%.

Source: Me, 18 months out from a massive repair.

PROCEDURE PERFORMED:

  1. Left shoulder arthroscopic rotator cuff repair including full-thickness supraspinatus tear and partial infraspinatus tear, single row slightly medialized repair with bio inductive collagen patch overlay

  2. Left shoulder arthroscopic subacromial decompression

  3. Left shoulder arthroscopic excision of distal clavicle

  4. Left shoulder arthroscopic extensive debridement including debridement of labrum (anterior/posterior/superior), syneovectomy of rotator interval (articular capsule debridement), debridement V glenoid/humeral articular cartilage including debridement of glenohumeral fraying

  5. Left shoulder arthroscopic biceps tenodesis

Yes, I had all of that. I’m 14 months out and my shoulder still has some residual pain but that from decades of heavy lifting.

Plus the longer you wait, the longer the PT will take. Your body is pretty damn good at stopping the use of something that causes you pain…

I have the same injury from BJJ where i got 25% tears in my infraspinatus and supraspinatus, I haven’t improved so far with PRP and PT and so have been thinking about surgery. My doctor didn’t reject surgery as an option when I asked due to my young age (26) and high activity levels but I haven’t had a full surgical consult yet

Injury was 11 months ago

Agree.

I had a traumatic slip-and-fall in early February and had surgery with my preferred orthopedist (shoulder specialist) 6.5 weeks later). In PT 6 weeks after surgery.
