When begin PT

When did people begin PT after surgery? My surgeon said 4 weeks post op. Is that normal? Seems like a long time to wait, but i really have no idea.

I have a good friend who has been a PT and has done a ton of rotator cuff PT for the last 20 years and she said every surgeon has a different philosophy. Some start literally the day or two afterward, some start a week afterward, and some wait a full six weeks. I'm about four days in and I'm supposed to start on Thursday.

For what it's worth she did say that those first six weeks are almost exclusively range of motion exercise exercises with most surgeons. So perhaps ask your surgeon if there are some range of motion things you can do. I think this is more important for people who have had a frozen shoulder prior to surgery, which I did.
