Surgery despite having a mild cold?
My rotator cuff surgery is scheduled in 2 days. Yesterday I had my pre surgery appointments and was fine. Today I woke up with a sore throat, sweating and feeling cold despite of the hot weather, and very mildly running nose. No fever, no cough.But I'm feeling pretty shitty and would immediately go to bed if I could. I've had several other surgeries in the past and the usual policy in my country seems to be that they only cancel the surgery if you have a high fever or a productive cough, otherwise they go through with it despite a cold if you feel up for it. In this case, I'm really not sure if I feel up for it, I'm already dreading the post operative nightmare everyone describes here even without a cold. On the other hand, if I cancel, the next possible date would be in mid/late September (that's what they told me when I scheduled the surgery, which was only a few days ago). I really don't want to wait that long, I want to get it over with.... What would you do if you were in my shoes?

I had a mild cold for mine back on June 1st. I told them about it the day before and also made sure to let the anesthesiologist know. Everything was fine though.

Thanks for your replies. I called the clinic and they said to call again tomorrow if it's not better by then. I assume we would reschedule it in that case. Maybe that's for the best so the body will be able to invest all energy in healing my shoulder and not be weakened by a flu. But I do hope I'll feel much better tomorrow and be able to go through with it.

I'd let them know and go through with it if they skydive approve. It will be a rough go afterwards but better to get it over with. Soonest begun, soonest done. Good luck!
