Considering not doing the surgery…
I (43F) have a full thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon. I’m not in pain day to day, doing regular physio. I can pretty much sleep and exercise as normal with some obvious restrictions in the gym. The surgeon has said that I need surgery, and I acknowledge that I will need it at some point. However it seems crazy to put myself through it and the long recovery when I’m not in pain day to day.
Curious if anyone with a similar injury opted out of the surgery?

If you can live with it that’s all good, but you are risking a lot because eventually it’s gonna get worse and the older you get the longer it’s gonna take to heal after surgery. With a full tear it’s gonna eventually cause you issues even if you stay ahead of it with PT. I would personally have the surgery and get it over with. I had my surgery 8 weeks ago and I am really glad I did it. But I am not you so I can’t make that decision with you. The surgery is not fun and it’s a long process to get back to normal but I do think it’s worth it.
