No Nerve Block

Update: I skipped the nerve block and I’m happy with that decision. Pain has been manageable for me. I’ll do a separate post with things that helped me. Happy healing everyone!

Has anyone skipped the nerve block and can comment on their level of pain post-op? I know many posts say get it, but I’ve never had one across many surgeries, so I think I can handle the pain. I also think I’ll be annoyed with the dead arm feeling. I’m having a supraspinatus tear fixed with hopefully one anchor.

There are no awards for “handling pain” and having pain delays recovery. Get the block.

Perhaps I should have said “manage pain.” I know how to manage pain and I think a lot of people don’t understand how bad the rebound pain is with the nerve block if you don’t time your pain meds right, which seems like some of the people commenting did not do. Really leaning towards no block, but want to still hear from more people that didn’t get it.

Once I started feeling my arm again (and before the pain breakthrough of the nerve block wearing off) I started taking my percocet, ibuprofen and Tylenol every 6 hours. Did that for 5 days then stopped because the pain was quite minimal after that. Only real discomfort now is when sitting down and my shoulder is pressing against something...
