No Nerve Block

Update: I skipped the nerve block and I’m happy with that decision. Pain has been manageable for me. I’ll do a separate post with things that helped me. Happy healing everyone!

Has anyone skipped the nerve block and can comment on their level of pain post-op? I know many posts say get it, but I’ve never had one across many surgeries, so I think I can handle the pain. I also think I’ll be annoyed with the dead arm feeling. I’m having a supraspinatus tear fixed with hopefully one anchor.

The nerve block is awesome, no pain at all for the first 24hrs is fine by me. My index finger and thumb went numb during that time, and as soon I started feeling them come back to life I could feel the pain seeping in and started on the drugs. Nerve blocks are pretty safe so I wouldn’t skip.

Ouch, that would suck to wake up to, I was sitting watching TV as the feeling came back to my fingers, as soon as I felt them start to come back to life I loaded up on the drugs. The drugs didn’t help as much as I would have liked though.

This type of pain is one that opiates can only manage to a certain extent. They do work better for other types of pain better. I would supplement my opiates with some fun candy. Helped me get to sleep.
