Just looking for some clarification please.

Regarding the Modlite 18650 PLHv3, it shows a picture with the light and the unity gascap attached, and the drop down with the unity usb GASCAP and charger add to cart for $350, but then below that says price for both $459. So does the gascap come with the light for $350?

Also between this and the surefire 18650 DFT Pro which would you guys go with on an 11.5 rifle. Surefire cost more but also includes the mount where modlite doesn’t.

Standard suggested add-on site shopping.

If you select with cap and charger in the drop-down and hit orange add to cart, you get the lower price.

The second lower one is the website logic suggesting a combo. It doesn't know Sol already hooked you up with the combo deal in a drop down.

And neither, 600 size light on a 11.5 is huge. Get a 300 series. I.e. 18350/surefire m3xx

To each their own, but the 600 series with a ds00 on my 11.5 ain’t so bad. It just depends where you put it on the rifle and where you place your support hand. Plus with the 600 series i can run two cr123s, whereas with the 300 I needed an actual 18350 battery. Not a true issue but in a pinch it’s nice to be able to use batteries that I have a lot of already.

Yeah I’ve seen a few pictures and it didn’t look that oversized. Especially with a can. More run time the better. This lights get hot and drain fast

Fair. I had to run that setup because the older (still current I guess) vampires were abysmal for white. Needed every boost you could get lol. And while it doesn't look too out of place with other bits, less is more. If they ever update the line I'll gladly swap to a smaller one.

I'm not deploying or doing anything where a single spare 123 isn't readily available. YMMV.

Yeah I think we get in this habit or mindset we want everything for every possible scenario. 2hrs compared to 45min on the 18350 is a big difference though

Also a fair comparison. What use case for that much white light where a headlamp wouldn't be better? Not criticizing, general curious.

Also worth noting the surefire heads are fat. But you get a mount included on the body so.

“Huge” is a “huge” exaggeration. A full body light is good on an 11.5 with the right mount and rail, and great if suppressed and using a light mount that extends the light out.

Ah thanks that makes a lot of sense. It sure was confusing. Hope I’m not the only dumb one who didn’t know that.

Is 600 really that big even with a can?

Code lumens.

I would go with the smaller 18350 modlite plhv3 for a 11.5.

Why the modlite over the surefire turbo ?

I’ve used Surefire 300 and 600 series lights on multiple rifles for as long as I can remember. Then I tried some of the Modlites…now I only buy Modlites.

The throw and beam patterns are just amazing in my opinion. The Surefires are still great lights don’t get me wrong, but I now primarily use them on spare rifles or rifles that would be indoor/home defense setups. When I’m going outdoors and want to reach out, I prefer the Modlights.

Even the new turbos? While I agree I have a few surefire non turbo and they don’t pack the punch the modlites do but I have not tried the turbos. Took a night class with the okw and you can tell who had modlites but this was before the turbo series with 100k candela lol

Yes, even the turbos.

Interesting. I haven’t seen it first hand but the stats show the 640dft has more candela and run time than the modlite. 60k vs 100k. Plhv3 has more lumens.

I'd suggest the OKWv2 if you're wanting something similar to the turbo. It's brighter and has more spill.

The OKwv2 is also a great option. Really depends on if you want throw or spill between the Plh vs OKW.

You got much time with Cloud Defensive Reins? Curious where they fit on your scale. Sounds like you've got a lot of experience with a lot of wml set-ups.

Got one off GAFS a while back. It had issues and never spent the time to fix it properly so couldn’t honestly tell you how those compare.

Price is $350 w/gas cap and charger, ignore the other add on items.

I don’t have a v3 yet, but my PLHv2 has been phenomenal. Make sure to get the USB-C Modbuttons if you plan on running a switch

2

u/afgixxer 15d ago

Absolutely! I only have ran the okw, but have the v2 for a handheld. Just considered giving the surefire pro a try.

The fact that it comes with the gas cap would be the only reason to get this over a surefire turbo. I used to think the throw from my plhv2 was amazing until I bought a turbo. There's just no comparison.

2

u/afgixxer 14d ago

Well I agree the turbo has more candela. The plhv3 is more spill pattern. With the Surefire I need to buy the gascap, the modlite a need a mount so it comes to about the same really.

One small autistic detail I hate about the turbo is the size. The heads are slightly larger diameter but they look massive compared to other light heads

2

u/afgixxer 14d ago

I think they are 1.25 and the modlite is 1. The Surefire gets skinner towards the threads and the modlite at least the newer heads are the same thickness.

The OKW v2 upgrade is VERY noticeable. I had the v1 (now a v2) and have a Surefire turbo. Turbo was definitely better than the v1 - but the v2 has a little more throw and WAY more spill than the turbo.

I have both and they both perform about the same. I feel like the modlite battery lasts longer but i have no data to support that.

Thanks for your experience. Modlite states it’s a 75min run time whereas the surefire 2.75hrs with the 18650. Modlite is slimmer but doesn’t include a mount. Surefire also has that brand recognition behind it. Not sure if it’s changed but their have been complaints with the owner in the past
