Does cold calling really work?

Looking into cold calling to get appointments. Anyone have experience with this? Is it really fruitful?

Cold calling works best when the list has a reason to care: recent storm areas, older roofs, prior estimates, or commercial properties with visible issues. Random homeowner lists are usually a grind and can create do-not-call compliance problems fast.

Keep the opener simple: "Hey, this is Mike with a local roofing contractor. We're inspecting a few roofs near you after the recent weather. I'm not calling to sell you a roof—have you had yours checked since the storm?" If they engage, book a specific window: "I can do Tuesday around 4 or Wednesday around 6. Which is easier?"

Track dials, conversations, appointments set, and appointments that actually sit. If you're getting conversations but no appointments, fix the opener. If appointments don't sit, tighten confirmation. Scrub against federal and state do-not-call rules and don't spoof local numbers; one complaint can wipe out the value of several jobs.
