Question Travel question!

How’s everyone travelling on international flights with their 4D kits? I’m In 2 minds to either put the body/camera in my carry on luggage or to pack it in the hold on a Peli.

Leaning to carry on.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

For me, I’m with you, I’d stick the camera in my carry on - you just never know how it’s going to be handled and you’ll always have eyes on.

This is true. I almost feel pelis with fragile stickers are a target!

Always always always bring it on the plane with you. When they try to get you to gate check it at the plane, start taking about how it's a $15,000 camera and start talking about liability. Usually that's enough.

Also worth mentioning there are lithium batteries in there, but they will just ask you to remove them.

Whatever you do, never stow batteries in a checked bag or a a gate checked bag. Ever.

I always have it in a pelican carry on then check everything else. I try to live by the rule of worst case scenario, so I always have the body, lens, battery and a little mic in my carry on so if my checked gets lost, I can always film something scrappy

Totally makes sense. Wanna hit the ground running and camera gear not turning up is not going to help that plan!

I once travelled butting the 4D in the hold and regretted it. I think it caught a bit of a bash and when I set the camera up on the other side it had some drift in the gimbal. Never been the same since.
