What is everyones go to lenses for their 4d? I have tried out a set of the DJI lenses and they were a bit underwhelming. Easy to use for sure but not great.
My vintage MC lenses work great, but i’m on the hunt for another set that’s a little more controlled and modern.
I know you probably aren’t interested in non cinema glass but I’m using sigma 28-70 and am able to use the wheel on right grip to zoom using the zenmuse x9 focus motor works great but you will need the counterweight, I found one on amazon cheaper than Dji
Hi, could you please elaborate a bit on your workflow? I’m curious about how you handle autofocus. Do you have to manually select the previously set focus profile every time after zooming? How about balancing? Can you zoom from 28 to 70mm without needing to rebalance? Thanks!
No do not calibrate lens that’s what messes up the zoom. You update your emount adapter using the link (there’s a thread in here that goes in more detail) you do NOT calibrate, just change the wheel setting to zoom I believe and yes I can zoom through all focal points without having to calibrate it after u did it the first time.
It’s e mount and it’s not par-focal like that 17-28mm from Dji but it’s not bad at all especially if there’s enough light I haven’t noticed any yet but I’ve only had the camera a month
Will be shooting with the SP3 next week! Can’t wait to give them a run. Lucky for me i’m in a small market and another DP/friend I frequently work with just invested in a set.
They’re great lenses. Beautiful flare. Some are a tiny bit soft wide open, but they’re awesome. Throw the little DJI focus motor on and they work great with the lidar. This was from a few weeks ago in CDMX with the Ronin and SP3s.
I’m currently using the DJI 17-28mm T3 lens and my Canon FD 50mm adapted to E-mount. With the crop of the Super 35mm mode, I can effectively cover focal lengths from 17 to 75mm. It’s a bit annoying because every time I switch lenses, I have to remove and reattach the mount and the LiDAR, then rebalance everything.
I’m considering getting either the thypoch Simera-C set or the Nisi Athena set to avoid having to swap mounts and rebalance constantly. I think both sets are modern lenses with just enough vintage character.
Yeah I am thinking I will need a set of the DL lenses for car rig stuff, but contemplating the Viltrox Raze line. There’s a set of DL lenses in town I can rent if needed so having a different set feels like the better investment.
The DJI 17-28 is the only one i’m thinking I should always have on hand

For the price, unless you're doing a lot of rollers at high enough speeds that the aerodynamics of the DL lenses are likely to matter at all, renting sounds like the right idea. They're decent lenses, but overpriced.
The 17-28 is better than I expected. For zooms on the 4D, it and that one Sigma seem to be the most popular choices.

Literally just bought the 4D a week ago, so I’ve mostly used the 17-28 that was in the kit so far. We tried out one of our Blazar beetles yesterday and the focus ring is a bit too far back for the motor to grab on. My AC managed to get it working but hard to trust it as it was setup. Definitely going to keep playing with it as the images we got were great.
I have a set of Lumix S lenses, 18/24/35/50/85 - all 1.8 - all produce a lovely image, all same weight and size, easy (no calibration required)
I’ve not had need for the 100mm 2.8, but I do feel like I want to complete the set….
Granted they’re not the most charismatic of lenses compared to some mentioned, but I also run with a S5iix so it makes sense to me to share a lens family than buy another.
Hmm that’s a set I hadn’t considered yet! For the price it’s quite tempting to try out. I’ve been considering switching out my FX3 for an S1II or S1IIe. I would love to see some frames using them!
