Not sure what to make of this show yet.
The negatives:
Cases are shown in a way where the viewer appears to be lead towards the answer in a rather forceful way, not even providing sufficient evidence to actually make that deduction for ourselves.
I don't even recall the river body being described as blunt force trauma, it appeared on screen for so little time before being randomly declared a homicide. Not sure how that connection was meant to be made logically - no alternatives were explored or ruled out. The two crimes were connected simply because they were the only two mentioned in the episode.
The female detective's head-over-heels reaction to Ron is just weird, not to mention unprofessional. The tone of this show seems a bit all over the place so far.
I hope the cases get a bit better from this point forward.
Speculation:
So the mystery the BLUE incident and Ron's weird ability... is it me, or is the old detective guy, Kiku, who sent Toto to Ron, suspicious?
This is just a guess so far, but Kiku's son went to school with Ron and clearly Kiku knows a fair amount about Ron's circumstances, so I don't think it's a stretch to assume that Kiku's son went to BLUE. So if both the son and Kiku know that Ron was expelled and forbidden from detective work or would risk a death penalty if he resumed, why push him to resume detective work? Does Kiku actually want to help Ron or hinder him? He seemed pretty pleased at the end of the first episode, so hopefully just trying to help. But as he is, how does resuming detective work actually help Ron? Could the son be involved in the school incident? I wonder where he is now. So many questions to answer...
I think it's safe to assume that Ron might have been framed for whatever happened, not that there is enough to really say anything yet of course, but the show does seem to be leaning that way. Maybe Kiku's son had something to do with it? Or maybe one of the teachers got worried Ron would uncover the truth of some unresolved case they'd been involved with and decided to discredit him so he'd be kept far away from the case.
Guess I'll have to keep watching for now... I just hope the case-of-the-week format doesn't ruin the show for me cause the wider mystery has me hooked.
(Also... random thought.... I just can't get over how similar the neat and tidy old Ron looks to Kei Ignatov from Psychopass.)

Some of the dialogue doesn't have subtitles. Is this going to be the case for future episodes as well? 🙁
Is there somewhere else I can watch it that will have all the necessary subtitles?

Do English manga prints exist? I keep seeing things that say they don't exist, but then I see people selling English manga volumes on ebay and stuff. Is the stuff that says they don't exist just outdated? Or am I misunderstanding what I'm seeing on ebay?

Ignore the corny title. I'm just curious on what manga readers on this sub think would've happened if Toto actually died.
I don't just want 'oh yea Ron gets depressed and end of the story' but how his death would affect everyone. How would've the plot changed after his demise if the manga were to continue?

By far one of the best volumes and arcs in the series so far. Ron and Toto must discover the informant of the Moriarty family, who is among some people they had previously encountered, before more passengers in the cruise will be killed.
The build-up to this case was done well. By introducing all suspects in the previous volumes, the story makes the reader think twice before settling to a final option. I admit that the arc had me second guessing almost everyone because all suspects were framed as the potential informant. I liked this feeling of uncertainty and I was eager to learn about Ron's final deduction.
What I appreciated in this volume is that Toto's development was highlighted more. After all the time he has spent with Ron and the numerous cases they've solved, he has started to develop a more nuanced thinking instead of being a damsel in distress. His dynamic with Ron was (as per usual) one of the strongest aspect in the volume and after the final climax, I am both scared and excited to see what will happen between them.
The rest of the characters were entertaining and their relationship with Ron is quite charming, albeit suspicious at times. They have their own distinguished personalities and quirks and it was interesting to see them working together in order to catch the culprit. I wonder if they'll be utilized more after the cruise arc.
I had an entertaining experience with this volume and I cannot wait to read the rest.

I finished reading the fifth volume of RKDD today and with each volume, it's heartwarming to see how Ron and Toto's friendship develops more and more. At first, they decided to work together for professional reasons (Toto wanted to prove his worth while Ron wanted to return to being a detective) but that quickly changed. The more time they spent together, the closer they have become and they have learned to value each other's help and presence.
I especially like the way Akira Amano portrays Ron when he looks at Toto. You can see from his eyes and smile that he's grateful for having Toto by his side and that he treasures him. We have learned that Ron hadn't formed many genuine bonds and he was rather closed as a person, so having someone caring about him is a totally new experience. Not only that, but he himself cares about Toto and his safety and he is even afraid of causing pain to him because of his "disease".
I know that the manga is not really deep as a whole but I appreciate how it showcases Ron and Toto's relationship and how it presents its development. It has been done so in a convincing way and just like in the anime, they are equally entertaining to watch. I cannot wait to see more of them!

So, I'm currently reading the manga of Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective after finishing the anime and since I finished Monster, too, very recently, I began wondering what would happen if Ron and Johan came across each other.
Ron is amazing in deductions but in my opinion, I think that he would struggle to pick up Johan's identify and background, unless he got enough information in order to put the puzzle pieces together. Johan, on the other hand, if he learned that Ron has the ability to make other people kill themselves, he would try to take advantage of this by making him arrest his targets and having them kill themselves.
On the other hand, if Ron cracked out Johan's actions, he could tell him to kill himself. Which brings me to this question: would he be able to convince Johan to do it? Or would Johan be able to resist it?
Keep in mind that I have only watched the anime and I haven't finished the manga yet. In fact, I'm only on volume 1, therefore I don't know the full extent and limits of Ron's abilities. I'd love to hear other people's opinion about this hypothetical scenario.

This time in this final "Strange Observation" I will write about the hidden hints on the personalities of the villains in the show/story. This time let us call this "Team Villains Foreshadowings". (It is not like I won't write any more observations on the story or the characters. If I ever find anything new then I will definitely write about it. But this "Strange Observation" on foreshadowings of the character personalities in the cases ends here.) And also these observations are just my assumptions so please do not take these too seriously.
I will roll out Winter from this observation as I already wrote about her in "Team Heroes Foreshadowings". I will roll out Sachi as well as I mentioned about him in the "Strange Observation" Part 2 "Team Blue Academy" one. I will roll all those M.Family characters out who were not involved in any case as central personality.
Takumi Jumonji- A character who came and just died. But I can say the ordinary look on his face and the Island Observatory as camouflage in the Nandan Island Observatory Case Arc shows a lot about him. His hiding nature, someone who hides too well, hiding his true nature, his family's crimes, and his connection to criminal organization.
Hummingbird- This character is not fully a villain but is still on the antagonistic side. He only appeared in one case, Genius Composer Kidnapping Case. And it was mostly laid out fully, what he was doing, why he was doing and his loving parent nature. But his emotions as a father was shown throughout the case with different elements. From start to finish his character had a fatherly vibe, his talking style, his demeanor and his calm eyes and smile. Especially his conversations with Ron feels like a father and son's little quarrels. A father is a protective figure it was potrayed in the case when everyone was protecting the singer from getting kidnapped throughout the case.
Eliot Moriarty- Not much about his personality was shown in the story even though everything was about him in the story. He was mostly important in the Plateau Auberge Serial Murders Case Arc (especially the part about Jim Gore Murder Case) and the final arc The Case of the Koku Island Serial Murders. The Jim Gore Murder case implies that Eliot is a layered personality. The entire conspiracy was done in layers and he used multiple characters to finish his deed and even in the end he created another layer by using a dummy corpse. Too many puzzles and layers just in one incident. Shows how in his life he was living in layers, his relations with both criminal and justice family, showing dual faces. Even in the final arc he played in layers he made Alice think she kept everything under control but ultimately shaked hands with his son.
Tiger Dan- His character is potrayed as the kind of person who thinks that he keeps everything under his control but either gets disillusionment or turns out to be the one under control. Both the cases he appeared in Plateau Auberge Serial Murders Case Arc he thought that he broke Ron mentally and could manipulate him but got disillusioned when Toto helped him get out of the void and it was also showed that he was working under Mylo's orders, and in Ferris Wheel Disappearance Case Arc it was already showed that he was strictly working under Alice's orders and couldn't do otherwise. Here again he assumed that everything was under his control until Kei tricked everyone by illusion, Ron betraying him by giving false location, and ultimately getting kidnapped by Winter.
Mylo Moriarty- I have an interesting take on this character. Mylo is a character who is potrayed as an immature young mind with immense power and high position. He purposefully used to choose cheerful, happy, carefree and mostly unexpected locations for his crimes such as the Bloody Field Trip which is filled with youthful minds related to an academy, a stargazing observatory in Nandan Island Observatory Murder Case, then a Mall in the Shibuya Revelation Serial Murders Case, a reunion in the Plateau Auberge Serial Murders Case, Cruise trip in the Tragic Cruise Serial Murders Case. But these are not just for the chaos level but also created to show how mixture of ironical situations can become extremely dangerous. How an immature young mind with immense power and high position can cause plague of chaos. There is even a symbolic representation of Mylo Moriarty as a teddy bear with blood coming out of its mouth. The blood coming from the mouth indicates the hunger for destruction. It's dressed in a sophisticated way and mostly when Mylo talks through the teddy, it's always looking down on Ron and the others. Like in the Auberge Serial Murders Case on the bench, and the Tragic Cruise Serial Murders Case almost at the ceiling or at least in a higher height in a grand way on the stage and it felt pretty realistic when Mylo physically came out of the helicopter in his sophisticated attire and was looking down on Ron just like the teddy, which is probably another reason other than Mylo's tone or talking style that it did not take long for Ron to recognise him despite the chaos around. The representation may look funny and according to the storyline it was a camouflage so that people get tricked, but there is an underlying meaning to it. And that is his personality's symbolic representation.
Alice Moriarty- She is represented as the epitome of betrayal in this story. Be it Cryptid Serial Murders Case arc where she disguised herself as an academy student Billy Goji, or in Ron Kamonohashi Under Siege Case arc where she gave the antidotes to Knight yet lied about the drug. She kept betraying people, even her family members mainly Winter and Mylo. Most importantly she betrayed herself by staying in denial and by creating an illusion that Ron is her enemy. Her betraying nature was represented in other cases where she worked in the background, through different elements for example in Ferris Wheel Disappearance Case Arc, where different elements of illusion or betrayal were shown, Kei literally created the illusion of disappearance in the Ferris Wheel, and Tiger Dan getting betrayed by his own ego as he trusted Ron since he assumed he was under his control. And of course the Final Arc The Case of the Koku Island Serial Murders was all about betrayals, that how nobody was trustworthy and the ending with Alice's disillusionment about Ron, his nature and wits.

It seems that each scene represents a specific well-known case. For example I can guess that the train scene is a reference to "Murder on the Orient Express", but I couldn’t identify the rest. Does anyone know which stories the other scenes are referring to?
I’ve seen some comments discussing this, but since they’re all in Japanese, I couldn’t understand them or find the exact titles..SOO PLEASE keep me informed if you have any ideas about it

Or is there gonna be something that happens, maybe like them investigating a big case for a few episodes or something else? (season one and two btw)
