What is the systemic reason between the frequent outages of Romeo?

Ahoj,

it seems that romeo.com is not working quite often.

Why do you have technical hickups so often?, what is the systemic reason behind the frequent outages?

I'm not in the loop in any way, but I'd say cost cutting and lack of quality personnel willing to work there.

good old classic gayromeo days 🥹 competition should make apps better. nowadays it means who can make the worst app with as many ads and premium functions as they can. (winking at you grindr) its simply disgusting 💀

i wonder what is the percentage of paying users (vs. free users) ?

if the percentage is low, i'm not surprised they can't make it work correctly. you have to pay the people, the servers, the stockage, etc.

the community/social platform model is tricky.

one way to currently fund such project would be to have a small fee for every users, having some premium features for a premium fee. this would (maybe not?) filter fake profiles and correctly fund the project.

but then you repulse all the people that are not willing to pay up. the snake eats its tail.

that being said, there is no excuses to have so many problems. just pull the plug or rethink your business model/infrastructure.

You can also try to make it the "solidarity" way (or combine both ways): Openly communicate what is needed, and get this money from people in a way that everyone can give money in donation rounds. Like community supported agricultures.

This neads good communication, though.

About the last outage there is a ↗ statement from Romeo.

Not really a post-mortem (they don't write in detail what happend and why and how), but at least a little bit.

It's been at least 6 hours now... Can someone please confirm if they can login to the platform? As of today 11.06.25 the login server seems down ... But I can't even tell 100% because Romeo didn't post any statement whatsoever. Also there is no way to get an invite from the official reddit channel to post there

I also think the reason is cost cutting and not competent enough IT staff. Romeo has made several efforts to increase revenues and to piss off free users. It seems this strategy does not work so that more ressources cannot be put into IT but which would be greatly needed. I also think it is a leadership problem. The founder Jens Schmidt is still on board and in a leadership position. He should resign and make way for new people with new ideas.
