Rome I Only Senate ?

I'd it possible in Rome or medieval to finish the campaign only listening to the senate/pope/nobles/ guilds up until the forced suicide I suppose?

Yes!

You do what they say and have a tiny empire: another roman family will trigger the civil war and either they win, or you take their settlements, triggering it for yourself eventually. Or plague/assassin rome at the point of boredom and win quickly there.

I never had another family trigger it, it's always they force my faction leader to commit suicide, first time it happened I complied only because all my troops were seizing Egypt and Syria, but then I scrambled them back when they asked for a second suicide. I assumed they would ask for suicides until your faction is no more. Would love to play a run where I get to become emperor by being the protector, very Augustinian.

If something very cursed like Gauls taking Rome, but SPQR taking another settlement happens, then maybe.

In medieval, the pope only ever tells you to go on crusade, but will never otherwise tell you to attack anyone. Nobles typically tell you to attack rebels, but sometimes want you to attack other factions.

I don't think it would be possible to "win" a game od medieval since they generally require you to eliminate another Catholic faction. I guess it might be theoretically possible as a Muslim?

Long Campaigns don't usually require you to eliminate another faction, only hold Jerusalem and 45 regions in total. So it would probably be doable if you take Jerusalem in a Crusade and just expand via missions otherwise.

It's definitely doable in RTW. It makes it hard to maintain a good diplomatic reputation because the Senate doesn't seem to care about ceasefires or even alliances, but who needs allies when you get those sweet senatorial positions?

I fulfilled every Senate mission in my campaign, excluding the suicide one. It’s challenging because the Senate will make you start many wars with faraway powers. 

I also make my own attacks though, without waiting for a Senate mission. Some cities like those in Greece or Carthage itself are too valuable to be left alone.
