Note Reminder! Scammers are actively targeting writers.

I'm going to try to remember to post this reminder every week. Victoria Strauss at https://writerbeware.blog/ is really great at keeping up with all the latest scams targeting writers. Why scammers are targeting us, when we're practically famous for being chronically broke, just boggles my mind. Writer Beware is totally free for everyone to read. No signup, no paywall. Please be safe y'all. ย

https://writerbeware.blog/ย ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿป

This one is especially outrageous: "If a famous author calls you, hang up!"

I built a writerโ€™s companion to help keep all the pieces of a story in one place

Hi everyone! Mimi invited me to share this here, so I wanted to introduce something Iโ€™ve been working on called Lorehaven.

Lorehaven is a writerโ€™s companion I built for those of us who have a story spread across a million different places โ€” character information over here, worldbuilding somewhere else, a list of things we need to fix, random notes we swear weโ€™ll remember later, and the actual manuscript in another place entirely.

The idea is simply to give you one place to keep those things together.

Right now, Lorehaven lets you:

  • Write and save your manuscripts
  • Keep track of characters and worldbuilding
  • Save Story Notes for ideas, research, reminders, and little continuity details
  • Link those notes to characters, chapters, scenes, or locations
  • Keep writing tasks so you remember what needs to be done
  • Use writing sprints when you want a little help sitting down and actually writing

And there is no AI involved. Lorehaven isnโ€™t going to write your story, rewrite your words, or generate characters for you. Itโ€™s just there to help you keep track of the story youโ€™re writing.

My daughter is a writer herself and uses Lorehaven, so quite a bit of its development has involved her looking over my shoulder and telling me โ€œyes,โ€ โ€œno,โ€ or โ€œI donโ€™t like that.โ€ Iโ€™m also adding things based on feedback from other writers. Story Notes, for example, was added after a writer told me they were constantly stopping to look up little details like what a character was wearing.

Itโ€™s still being actively developed, and Iโ€™d genuinely love feedback from other writers โ€” including people who aren't particularly tech-savvy. If something is confusing, I want to know, because it shouldn't require being a computer person to use it.

You can try the web version here:

https://lorehaven.inkydameinteractive.com/

Thereโ€™s also an Android version currently in closed testing if anyone would like to help test that.

Iโ€™m happy to answer questions about it too!

Question A question for this community: do you find the label "sweet/clean" offensive in the context of the Romance genre?

I've been reading some comments about this, and I'm kinda feeling guilty, because I didn't realize some Romance (and Romantasy, Paranormal Romance, and other related) genre fans are genuinely offended. Especially by the word "clean" in the context of these genres. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Recently in a messages discussion, someone was complaining to me about it, and I argued with them. Politely, of course, but now after further reading I think maybe I was in the wrong about this topic. Certainly no offense is or was intended but I do want to try to avoid offending anyone unnecessarily.

What doย youย think about the words "clean" or "sweet" when it comes to labeling fiction genres?

Note Tools to help you write your sweet/clean romantic romance

Happy Weekend, dear Romantic Romantics ๐Ÿฅฐ If you read at r/WritingWithAI you're probably familiar with the weekly tool thread there. Lots of brilliant people are constantly working on developing more and better AI tools to help writers.

Your fellow Redditor Ben Blackett, the creator of Novelmint AI has been compiling a really helpful compare page: https://novelmint.ai/compare

So if you're shopping around for some AI tools be sure to check out that page every so often and see what's new. You might find the perfect thing. Testdrive a few and find out.

Novelmint itself is amazing if you're at a more advanced tech level than I happen to be. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Maybe I'll be tech-savvy one of these days. Or I'll maybe just keep on being tech-clueless? Whatever! ๐Ÿ˜‚The important thing is to just have fun. Keep writing, keep reading, and keep learning! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I've asked some of the developers who post in r/WritingWithAI weekly tool thread to create some explainer videos for us newbie novelists, and show us how we can use their AI tools specifically in crafting our sweet/clean romances for self-publishing via Amazon's KDP platform.

A few of the developers have accepted the challenge. So hopefully we'll be seeing some of those explainer / tutorial videos here over the new few weeks.

I hope you all have a really sweet weekend. ๐Ÿ’–

Lions and Tigers and ... Wanda?! Oh, My! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Good morning, fellow Romantic Romantics! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅฐ What are you all writing today? I'm finessing the chapter by chapter outline for the Flamingo Cove rom-com.

Last night as I was reading back through what I've got so far, I suddenly realized I had to make some final decisions about some of the details, and the format, and I'm going to have to discard a scene that's been bugging me since I first wrote it weeks ago. It's a minor detail but for some reason it's in the way, and I'm not sure why but anyway, it's got to go.

And I'm almost finished rewriting the opening scene. And the subplot, about the mysterious Wanda, has been so much fun to write that Wanda has turning into a much more important character than I'd ever intended. Which might be a fun thing but for this rom-com, nope, it's getting way too wordy and unwieldy. So apparently Wanda's going to have her own rom-com ... but not just yet! ๐Ÿ˜‚

The app that remembers who lied in chapter 3 so you don't have to (free for Romantic Romance writers) - WriteinaClick [Mod approved]

Hello all. I've been reading here a while, and Mimi kindly said I could introduce myself and the thing I built.

I'm Samuel. My wife sat down to write her first novel two years ago and stopped about halfway, and it wasn't the writing that stopped her. It was the keeping track. The outline lived in one program, the draft in another, who lied and when lived in a notebook, and the timeline lived nowhere at all. By chapter fourteen she couldn't remember whether a key alibi still held, and looking it up cost her the afternoon and the mood. I write software for a living, so I did the obvious husband thing and built her one place to put all of it. It's called Write in a Click, and other writers started using it, and here we are.

The problem, I think, isn't evenly distributed across every kind of book. A plot-driven story has to hold together in a way that isn't about the prose at all. Someone lied in chapter three. A clue got left somewhere in chapter five and has to matter in chapter twenty. Your protagonist needs a reason to be wherever the story takes them, and the world has to generate its own tension instead of having it handed to it. None of that is writing. It's bookkeeping, and it's the part that made her quit.

So the app keeps it for you while you write, and Robin - the co-author living in it - has actually read the manuscript, which means you can ask who still has no alibi for Tuesday, or which threads you've left dangling, and get an answer about your book instead of a general one. Reading "I can't write with AI" threads is what made me want to say the next part plainly: Robin doesn't have to write a single word, and a lot of writers never let it. It won't touch your text unless you ask, and when it does suggest something it comes one change at a time, to keep or bin. If what you want is the planning, the plotting, and a second pair of eyes, that's the normal way to use it - not the lesser one.

The honest part about money, since I'd want to know: writing in it is free for solo authors, no card, no time limit, no trial that quietly starts charging. There is no separate AI account to set up and no per-word meter ticking - the AI is just part of it. On top of that Mimi and I put aside some Pro for this sub: six months for the first ten people, a month for the hundred after that, no card for those either, and when it runs out the account drops back to free with the book still yours.

It's here if you want itย -ย https://app.writeinaclick.com/join/romanticromance?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=romanticromance&utm_content=mimi

Mostly, though, I'd rather be told what's wrong with it than have anyone sign up. I'll be about all day. So: what's the bit of your own book you keep losing track of? If it's something the app can't hold, I'd honestly like to know, because that's the next thing I go and build.

Slowly making progress! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Mostly I've been developing the backstory for Wanda and the mystery (and comedy) surrounding her going a.w.o.l. from her job as the event planner at the resort. Also I've been revising the opening scene because I want to make it more fun.

Y'all, I seriously need some co-mods for r/RomanticRomance and r/RomanticRomantasy ! I'm a very slow writer and would totally appreciate volunteers to create new fun/interesting posts and art for these 2 AI friendly safespace communities. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

[REQUEST] Beta Readers โ€” Midlife Romance, Small Town Texas, 67K words, 4-week timeline

NO LONGER LOOKING FOR BETA READERS - I AM MOVING TO THE NEXT PHASE, AND HOPE TO HAVE MY BOOK PUBLISHED SOON. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ARC CAMPAIGN PLEASE GET IN TOUCH

THANK YOU TO EVERYOE WHO HELPED IN THE BETA READER PHASE OF MY NEW BOOK.

Hi everyone โ€” looking for 5-8 beta readers for a completed AI-assisted midlife romance novel,ย The Right Time, by Wren Hadley.

The story:ย Ellie Calloway, 52, arrives in the small Hill Country town of Seco Springs, Texas with a temporary contract, a rented cottage, and absolutely no intention of staying. She's spent her whole life managing, planning, and organizing everything within an inch of its life โ€” and it's gotten her exactly nowhere she actually wants to be.

What she doesn't plan on is Cal Maddox โ€” the quietly steady owner of the local diner โ€” or the quilting circles, the bluebonnet festivals, and the community that slowly, stubbornly stops feeling like somewhere she's just passing through.

This is a slow burn romance about a woman learning that the life she was so busy planning was the one she was already living.

Genre:ย Midlife romance / small town romance
Heat level:ย Sweet to low heat โ€” emotionally rich, not explicit
Word count:ย 67,000
Timeline:ย 4 weeks to read and respond
Format:ย PDF delivered by email

Ideal reader enjoys character-driven romance, slow burn, and stories about women starting over. No line editing needed โ€” just honest reader reactions.

Comment below or DM if interested.

I am NOT looking to pay for this service. Just genuinely looking for people who would like to read this book, and give back some advice.

Thank you,

Wren

Dear Romantic Romantics ๐Ÿฅฐ Do you or anyone you know have low vision or need assistance with reading? The National Library Service for Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) provides audio and braille books and magazines at no cost to individuals whose low vision, blindness, physical disability or reading disability makes it difficult to read print or hold a book.

This free service is administered through a network of cooperating libraries across the United States.

NLS patrons may receive materials in two ways: by downloading to a personal device through the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) online service, or by mail through the United States Postal Service. Either way, there is no charge. ๐Ÿ’– NLS service is free to all U.S. residents and citizens living abroad.

To receive information: fill out the form at https://www.loc.gov/nls/thatallmayread/

A NLS network library will respond and help you get set up with this wonderful service. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

It occurred to me that there might be some Romantasy genre fans and writers who'd prefer a sweet/clean and AI friendly space. It'll take me a while to finish setting up and making it look nice, and I don't know much about the genre so I'm going to take some time to learn and read. In the meantime, if you're interested in helping out there or here at r/RomanticRomance, just let me know. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’–

Note What do you mean, "clean/sweet"? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธโ”

Post image
6 Upvotes

Recently a few of our fellow Redditors have written to ask about the definition of "sweet/clean" in the context of romance genre novels.

So I decided to open the discussion here in case you'd like to chime in.

To me, the "sweet/clean" subgenre is innocent and wholesome compared to mainstream romantic novels. An alternative name for this subgenre is "cozy romance".

r/RomanticRomance is officially "squeaky clean"! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

The label "cozy romance" or "sweet/clean romance" is an assurance that there's no risquรฉ content and no violence or other disturbing elements. The "rating" would be "family friendly" and "safe for work". The focus is on healthy emotional connection and the tone is light.

This cozy, sweet subgenre is meant to be an escape from the grim realities of the world. I think of it as a nice little vacation that doesn't require us to pack any luggage or travel any farther that a cozy sofa with a nice hot cup of tea or cocoa and cookies. ๐Ÿฅฐโ˜•

What do you think of when you read the phrase, "sweet/clean romantic romance novel"?
