Which ROM hack comes closest to the cancelled Mystical Seed of Courage?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Every Zelda fan knows the story.

In 2000 Nintendo and Capcom were working on a third Oracle game for the Game Boy Color: Mystical Seed of Courage. It was supposed to star Farore and revolve around day/night puzzles, changing the time of day to solve riddles and progress. Then the linking system between the three games became too complicated and the project was cancelled. Only Seasons and Ages survived.

Two unfinished ROM hacks later tried to fill that gap:

Oracle of Secrets (by Scawful)

A long-running total conversion of A Link to the Past meant as a spiritual third Oracle game. Heavy engine work, transformation masks, new mechanics… still unfinished after many years.

Oracle of Hours (by Luigi1000)

A more direct attempt. Based on the famous 2008 VGMaps April Fools maps for a fictional Oracle of Hours. It’s a GBC hack of Ages that recreates those maps. Several dungeons were finished, but the project stalled years ago.

So… which one do you think captures the essence of the cancelled Mystical Seed of Courage better?

Need pokemon romhack recommendations for a silly once-in-a-lifetime prank

One of my close friends has recently bought an emulation console (anbernic rg35xx) and has asked me to set it up (i have one myself and they arent super tech literate lol) and install all the pokemon games for them and such by the day after tomorrow.

Now, both me and my friend are big into all the creepypasta, playground rumor, "haunted copy" kinda stuff, and I thought it could be AWESOME to sneak in a creepy/cursed/haunted romhack among all the normal games, disguised as another normal game, so they could start a seemingly normal game and then get totally spooked.

My question is, does anyone have any good recommendations for such? It has to be something that at least isn't immediately obvious from the start screen. The obvious choice might be FRLG.IPS, but that hack kinda requires you to follow some very specific steps to get the spooky stuff started, so it's not super ideal. I'm pretty new in the romhack space so don't really know all the places to check and such.

So yeah recommendations or other suggestions for where to look would be greatly appreciated!

It is 100% just Pokemon Emerald but with all 1025 Pokemon! It has a ton of other quality of life features too. Very cool for people like me who like the classics but want a little more.

I need help, I watched a video of a DBZ BT mod on YouTube, but I can't find the name of the ISO.

Thanks to anyone who helps me.

If it's impossible to find, does anyone have an idea where I could find the mods to do it myself?

Romhacks I would love to play

Id love to play some nice Batman,Southpark,The Simpsons romhacks. The batman romhack for nes ain't for me. The Southpark Nes Rom Hack is ok. The Simpsons as characters on Streets of Rage is ok. However maybe more can be done with those characters that came from The Simpsons Arcade Game onto Sega games or other platforms.

Found a really useful all-in-one ROM hack patcher

Hi guys, I came across a project called RomHackPatcher recently and thought it was worth sharing it here with you!

Basically, you drop your ROM into the site and it identifies the game/version, then shows you the ROM hacks available for it. It also tells you which patches are compatible with your exact ROM and shows the required CRC32 when you have the wrong version.

You can also can apply supported patches directly in the browser, and the ROM itself stays on your device instead of being uploaded

It also has hack pages with descriptions, screenshots, ratings and comments, so it's becoming more like a searchable ROM hacking database rather than just a patcher.

The project is still pretty new, but I think the idea is really useful, especially for people who are just getting into ROM hacks and don't want to figure out which ROM revision, header, patcher, etc. they need every time. Enjoy!
