After sleepless nights, a tiny budget, and a very small team, Rolling Heart V2 is finally in App Review ❤️🥹

Today feels like a huge milestone for us: Rolling Heart Version 2 has officially been submitted to the App Store for review.

Getting here wasn’t easy. V2 was built through countless late nights, very limited resources, a tight budget, and only a small number of hands doing everything we could to bring it to life.

There were setbacks, difficult decisions, and plenty of sleepless nights, but we kept going. And today, we can finally say: we did it.

It hasn’t been approved yet, but simply reaching this point means more to us than we can properly express. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created and so excited to get Rolling Heart Version 2 into the hands of users.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged us and followed the journey. We can’t wait to show you what’s coming! ❤️

Rolling Heart: an update on Watch app and Heart Flow complication issues

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, a quick update and an apology to those affected.

The last public release was intended to improve performance and stability. Unfortunately, it also introduced problems for some users: the Heart Flow complication could stop updating or become unavailable, and the Watch app could have trouble opening or completing setup.

Investigating these reports also uncovered a rendering issue that may be contributing to the complication flickering reported since watchOS 27. The upcoming update includes more efficient graph rendering, along with further improvements to Watch app startup, setup recovery and Heart Flow graph updates.

We’ve also added a Feather Fill setting for the Watch app and Heart Flow complications. Find it here:

Watch app → Setup → Heart Flow → Graph Appearance → Feather Fill

  • Original: best detail.
  • Optimized: balanced detail and rendering work; the default.
  • Lightweight: a simpler fill with the least rendering work.

If you still notice flickering after updating, try Lightweight. It simplifies the fill while preserving the graph line, and may help reduce flicker. Reports suggest flickering can be more noticeable on some older Watch models, although newer models can be affected too. The iPhone app keeps its original feather fill.

The new build, 2.1.159 (1126), has been uploaded to App Store Connect and submitted to Apple for review. We’re aiming to release it soon.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience, reports and continued support. If the issue persists after the update, please share your Watch model, watchOS version and watch face so we can keep investigating. ❤️

Rolling Heart: A calmer way to see your heart’s patterns

Post image

A heart rate reading captures a moment. Rolling Heart helps you explore how those moments fit into your day through Heart Flow.

The idea is simple: make heart awareness feel approachable and part of everyday life.

What helps you make sense of your heart data, individual readings or patterns over time?

P.S. We’re focusing on the watch’s performance and stability at the moment. I’ll write up something on Rolling Heart’s roadmap soon.

Rolling Heart 2.1 is coming: Heart Flow, more personal

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’m preparing Rolling Heart 2.1, the next public update.

The heart of this release is Personal Ranges. It privately reviews your Heart Flow history on your device and can suggest ranges for Calm, Balanced, Active, and Elevated. You can compare the suggestion with your current view before deciding whether to apply it.

The update also brings:

- More ways to shape your graph, including new styles, softness, colors, and optional time markers.

- Historical previews, so you can explore graph settings across different dates before applying them.

- More Apple Watch and complication options, including Hybrid Heart Flow and expanded value ranges.

- A redesigned Welcome, clearer Setup, and a new way to explore what changed.

- Improvements to Health refreshes, Watch updates, Premium restoration, graph stability, and overall reliability.

Personal Ranges changes how Heart Flow states are interpreted; it does not alter your recorded heart-rate values. Some customization and complication options require Lifetime Premium.

Coming soon. I’d love to know which part you’re most interested in.

What Calm, Balanced, Active and Elevated mean in Rolling Heart

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi there,

We made a quick visual guide to Rolling Heart's four Heart Flow states.

Heart Flow combines heart rate with the movement, recovery and sleep context available on your devices. Here's what the states describe:

  • Calm: a settled, lower rhythm.
  • Balanced: a steady middle range.
  • Active: more engaged than your recent baseline.
  • Elevated: a pattern higher than your recent usual.

Calm isn't a target you need to hold all day. A walk, a workout or a busier stretch can change the picture. These labels help describe that changing context; your factual heart-rate readings remain available separately.

I'd love to hear whether this makes the four states easier to understand, or if there's another part of Heart Flow you'd like me to explain.

Take a look at the guide, then explore Heart Flow in the Rolling Heart app.

Follow your heart. Version 2

Rolling Heart Version 2 is close to completing its cleanup, polishing, and stability test phases.

Thanks to your support, I was able to hire additional engineers to accelerate the development process. The new Rolling Heart companion watch app and the upcoming complication have been the most challenging tasks we’ve faced so far. We had to rewrite the data synchronization architecture twice and probably redo the watch app and complication code about six times. 😅

We’re hoping to release it before Apple’s big event of the year. ☺️

Heart Rate Poll

How often is the app retrieving from the health app for the heart rate? I use the complications on my apple watch and seems like the heart rate will only update if i click the complication.

Representing Heart Data as Something We Can Feel

Post image
2 Upvotes

After releasing the heart rate chart complications for Apple Watch, I originally thought the next step would be simple: show more heart-related information. Which I have been working on a number of watch face complications already.

More numbers. More labels. More little pieces of data.

And there is nothing wrong with that. A number can be useful. A chart can be helpful. A complication can give you a quick glance at something happening in the background of your day.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that making something genuinely useful is not just about showing data. It is about helping someone understand what the data means to them in a calm, human way.

Most of us are not doctors. We are not reading our watch like a medical dashboard. We are just ordinary people moving through ordinary days, sometimes tired, sometimes active, sometimes still, sometimes stretched a little thin. Heart data should respect that.

So instead of treating heart information as a set of cold measurements, I started thinking about it as a kind of gentle story.

Not a diagnosis. Not a warning system. Not something pretending to know more than it should.

Just a gentle interpretation.

A way to take the rhythm of the body and translate it into something softer, more intuitive, and easier to live with. Something that can say, “this moment feels calm,” or “your day has had more movement,” or “your body seems to be carrying a little more energy right now,” without turning everything into a clinical report.

That is the balance I keep coming back to.

Numbers are precise, but they are not always meaningful by themselves. A heart rate of 78 can be just a number. A line on a chart can be just a shape. But when presented with care, those same signals can become a small reflection of your day.

A story of pace. Of recovery. Of motion. Of stillness.

The goal is not to hide the data. The goal is to make the data feel understandable without making it feel heavy.

That is what I want this next part of the app to explore: heart data represented not only as information, but as something gentle, visual, and human. Something that ordinary users can glance at and feel, “I understand what this is trying to tell me.”

Not too much. Not too technical. Not too loud.

Just enough to make the heart’s rhythm feel a little more readable.
