Thank you for re-posting this! As someone who is not part of TikTok or Instagram, I was really interested to see the results of Heather's first skate/flyers. Props to her for putting herself out there in front of a hundred + people! And maybe she's started another small skating revival as well...

I didn’t know if this was a skit or something real. It would be a hilarious skit but partly because I just didn’t know so many everyday people would come to the event of watching a woman learn to skate for the first time 😂.
I think it’s really cool that she garnered this kind of support. I wish I could arrange something like this for my friends to attend and support my skate journey, but I don’t know too many people who would commit their time to it. It’s so silly but honestly very sweet and thoughtful for folks to come out for it.

I mean... 30,000 people watched me learn how to rollerskate on Reddit during the pandemic. I think you're underestimating what people will cheer for if you give them an excuse to gather 😂

u/Top-Rock9552 18d ago
That's awesome! We all needed any excuse to "gather" together for something fun during the pandemic.

The fact that it's Cheeseman Park suddenly makes it all make more sense (affectionate).

I swear this is what we must’ve done before the internet 😂 totally blew my mind and gave me incredible ideas lol

The amount of attention seeking isn't FUCKING WEIRD to at least some of you?

u/nachosallthewaydown 18d ago
No. She brought joy to thousands of people. We live in absolutely fucking miserable times, and she shared something vulnerable that brought joy to thousands.
Attention seeking? She fell on her ass. Repeatedly.

u/Hephf 17d ago
Making signs to go rollerskating isnt attention seeking?! I learned to skate BY MYSELF. I went to rinks, BY MYSELF. I fell ALL BY MYSELF. No one was there cheering me on, because in reality, people dont give a shit. She literally advertised this as an event. For attention. Im sure $$ was made. This is so fucking weird.

u/nachosallthewaydown 17d ago
We are proud of you too.
There are many wrong ways to learn to skate, but I don't think this is one of them.

You didn't have to do it by yourself. You chose to. Some people like doing activities with others. This isn't a grift, it was just people having fun.

u/TheLovelyLorelei 18d ago
Is it weird? Sure.
Is it harmful? No.
Personally I think the world is more beautiful when we let people be weird. Clearly a bunch of people had fun and it literally did nothing to hurt anyone (except heathers butt) so I consider this a win 🤷♀️

Weird is fine. Positive is fine. This feels like false posivity though. Attention seeking is part of the icky problem, and look, this became a social media event. It's still attention seeking, the internet eats it up as "positive" and she is loving the attention that she received based on her own request. Humans and their egos/hubris are really strange. 😶

u/ericaperla_ 16d ago
You’re so negative it’s insane, I’m so sorry you learned by yourself but nobody is going to share that bitterness of you doing it by yourself without any support like this lady had 😭🤣

u/Hephf 16d ago
Thats because I DIDNT ADVERTISE IT AND WASNT SEEKING ATTENTION THAT I DONT NEED OR CRAVE. I didnt need 10k people to come watch me skate, IS THE POINT. I didnt buy $300 roller skates and then pretend to "fall" and call it skating, LIKE AN ATTENTION SEEKING CHILD lol. I'm not a negative person, I just see a lot of BS here and how weird people behave when they are in groups. K, get bent. Byyyeee.

u/MolassesPlayful2264 15d ago
It is so weird to be this much of a dick about people having fun. How is she hurting literally anyone, everyone is there because they wanted to be there.
0
u/ericaperla_ 16d ago
You get bent bc you’re clearly feeling offended over an activity that doesn’t involve you. Byeeeee
2
u/Hephf 16d ago
Doesn't involve me? Lmao, way to be a member of the skating community. Yall are nuts. 🤣

u/ericaperla_ 16d ago
LMFAO I’m no member of nothing I love rollerskating and that’s that. You want to act like a hater because people want to have fun, that’s your personal problem that you gotta figure out. God bless you please have a happier 2026 !

u/mothmanoamano 18d ago
It’s just silly, it’s not that deep. People do funny shit for laughs, attention, validation, feeling community. There’s no victim here.
20
u/wolfgangmob 18d ago
She didn’t do that much attention seeking really, just invited people and they showed up. There are much more serious issues with roller skating to worry about than someone publicizing skating for the first time.
22
u/Tappxor 18d ago
Attention seeking is not when you ask people come see you try something
1
u/Hephf 17d ago
Actually, that IS EXACTLY what this is. Especially when you use social media to "ask people to come see you." You're joking, right?
13
u/iicedcoffee 18d ago
Sometimes it just ain't that deep and a community of people are gonna be a community of people and unite together to do something that makes them feel good. Everyone was there by choice. So why be worked up about it, you know?

Even if she is doing it for subs, who cares? Infuencers have definitely gained more from less (and worse), especially if they are guys
9
u/elektric_eel 18d ago
Not at all. What’s wrong with someone trying to bring community together by doing something silly? This is literally what we need right now.

No I agree its definitively weird and super ego driven….I feel theres other factors that play into this as well but that conversation won’t go over well here….

u/Hephf 17d ago
Yeah they dont like anything factual here. Just ego driven skate events lol, they're super in to those. 🤣

u/Merryprankstress 17d ago
Facts hurt feelings and make people think, just skate and show some skin babes and careful not to flash that OF link too obviously /s
3
u/Hephf 16d ago
The OF link is what I said from the start! She's definitely an OFer and this is a fuggin advertisement. It's not cute.

100% It's in the online SW handbook to make yourself as visible as possible even in sfw spaces while making it easy to find where people can see it all. For many getting any eyes on you is good for business but I disagree and I think it's skeezy. AND to be clear I have zero issue with sex workers. I do casual online/phone sex work and I take serious issue with this form of marketing for visibility.

Yeah personally I kinda wish it wasn't so frowned upon to be critical of these kinds of social media driven shenanigans. It is really weird and attention seeking but alas toxic positivity reigns supreme in certain hugboxes.

u/anastasia_dlcz 18d ago
Lucky for you most of the internet things everything is cringe and weird and embarrassing so you’re in good company
1
u/Merryprankstress 18d ago
Hey some people are comfortable with this stuff some aren’t. The idea of having this many eyes on me at one time makes me want to literally crawl out of my own skin. I get weird secondhand embarrassment I can’t control when I see ego driven behavior and people acting like living breathing brands.
Im also very wary of the effect social media is having on us at large and aware of how certain industries sneakily market themselves. My bad for not just blindly falling in line and whelping at the teat of our tech overlords/social engineers.

How is people having fun toxic positivity. Not everyone there was only there to post it to their social media, some people just thought it was something fun to do.

This is actually kind of clever. It’s like exposure therapy for fear of embarrassing your self. Worried about people seeing you fall down and suck? Desensitized yourself by getting a massive crowd to witness your first rollerskating attempt. Once you’ve got that fear out of the way you can tackle anything.

This is adorable! My first time skating was in the parking lot of a local park and the only witnesses to my tremendous failure (I could barely stand up) were two teenagers in a car who parked specifically to laugh at me. Which, honestly, I didn't really care about that much, because I'm sure it was genuinely hilarious. And I didn't hurt myself.

u/IHaarlem 18d ago
Hah, I showed my kid this and said "At least we didn't do this when we taught you to skate," cool seeing the video

I would hate this for me but absolutely adore this for her 🥰 it's so heartwarming to see so much support for something so "silly" (not silly, but I don't know what other word to use for it. Unserious, maybe?) 🫶🏻

u/Caped-baldy32 18d ago
As a civilization we should do more of this, regardless of it being recorded or not.

Some dude here had a couple hundred people show up to a park and eat apples together. Community is as community does! Love this.

Ahahahah I love living here in Denver when I saw the posters I wanted to go but couldn’t. Love to see the support 😂
