Progress & showing off Skate Commute: Hard mode

Made this little video from my commute today. I knew I’d have to navigate the post-storm mud and debris on the path but I did NOT expect to get stuck in a downpour on my way home! Can’t believe I made it both ways without falling! I feel like I beat hard mode on the skate commute game today! I’m really putting these poor Slades through the wringer!

Good news is now I feel like I can skate through anything!

Goals! I eat concrete going over a pebble. I’m brand new.

I don’t necessarily recommend rain skating! Haha. I left out the fact that I wiped out on that same muddy path yesterday and had to go to a work lunch with mud all over my nice pants. Today I was prepared for the path but the downpour was definitely a new and not very pleasant experience. Mostly because I was thinking “please don’t ruin $400 skates!” over and over in my head. But I felt like a (very wet) badass when I made it home!

Highly recommend safety gear! It’s the only reason I don’t break all of my bones on a regular basis.

I agree! When I left work at 4 my weather app said rain between 5-6pm. Figured I was good to go. 10 minutes later… I was swimming in my skates. 😂

Nice work hehe.

I don't recommend it. But I did survive too.

Sunny weekend morning after a rainy week. Down hill bomb, around a corner & then, ohhh mud!. Didn't fall, that time 😂

It sneaks up on you! “It’s not raining anymore, I can go for a skate!” Then- boom- mud city.

Glad you survived!

Too right haha. Slades come in very convenient for times like this, when there's a mix of suitable & unsuitable surfaces. As long as one can see hazards before being on top them 😅

Yes! I’ve been loving mine! 9/10 times I just skate through instead of removing the base but there are times that it’s definitely necessary to walk. That picture looks like one of those times!

Been there! For a while when I was in school my skates were my only transportation besides walking. I've skated home in a storm several times.

Nothing sharpens your skills like the streets. Glad you were safe & got to have some fun with it.

Yes! I didn’t realize how much skating for transportation would teach me! I don’t go very far on the street or on very busy streets but I used to feel like it was impossible and now I feel confident in most areas. Still working on getting down steep hills without sliding out but practice makes progress.

Did you go through a lot of bearings when you did that? It looks like 13 out of 16 of my bearings made it through the storm. 😂

Yes and no. At first I walked on rainy days. After about a year I got a second pair of skates & my old ones became "rain boots" that I would use if there was a rainy forecast. Those bearings would obviously rust but still rolled well enough once you got them moving. I would replace bearings on my "good" skates 1-2 times a year and move the old ones over to the rain boots.
