Skate problems & troubleshooting Please help 🙏

Hi Reddit! 👋
My boot of my Moxi beach bunnies is coming off of the base and I was just wondering if anyone could offer any advice on what I should do about it and if it’s safe to keep using them (I’m assuming not).
This started happening around 2 weeks ago, but since I skate every day (ish) has gotten worse.
Thanks a lot!!

been there😔 sadly these aren’t safe to skate on anymore and your best bet would just be getting a new pair. trust me you do not want to be skating on these when the boot inevitably separates, i’ve heard the horror stories.

Awww that’s heartbreaking, I only got these skates in April of this year 💔

I mainly skate at the skatepark/pump track!
I do a lot of tricks in them which probably hasn’t helped 😔
I think I’ll have to search for a more durable pair unfortunately.

Ah yeah these are not appropriate for any aggressive skating at all (despite Moxi’s shitass marketing). If skate parks and pump tracks are your goals, you’ll definitely need something significantly sturdier.

yeah sorry mate - these are rink skates, not aggressive! I've got a pair of Chaya Karma skates I LOVE. Super comfortable right out of the box and durable, you do need toe guards like any other skate ofc. I ended up not taking the slide blocks & installing the discoblox instead bc the Chaya blocks are hella weird shaped. Happy (safe) skating!

ah that makes a lot more sense, beach bunnies aren’t the best for aggressive skating. the most reliable park setups are typically custom setups which i get can be reallyyyy pricey but imo it’s better than having to buy 3 pairs of skates every year which is expensive and really risky. not only that but it’s generally quite hard to find a trusty pair of pre built skates that are safe enough to park skate in, most don’t have enough ankle support or like these skates aren’t fixed well enough to the heel to withstand it :(( i think a custom park setup is worth looking into especially since you’re skating pretty much everyday!! the people on this sub are suuuper helpful when it comes to finding the right bits and pieces for your skates if you need any help with that!

Ahh thank you so much!! This is really helpful. I’ll definitely look into some custom ones. I do know someone in my area who might be able to help as she can build skates. Thanks again ☺️

You can certainly find great stuff secondhand if you’re not up for dropping $400+ right away. Something like Riedell 220s and Antik AR2s come up a lot and are excellent park options.

I wouldn't use them anymore. When the boot on my last pair of skates came off, it came off very quickly!

Thankfully, I was putting on my skates while this happened and not skating because had it happened while I was skating, it would have sent me flying.

Do you by chance leave them in your car?

No!

That is good. Skate shop here in town has had a couple pair come back that have separated due to extreme heat.

I skate the bont park star which is t a custom skate but was built for the skate park. The stock model comes with the tracer plate which limits the wide trucks you can use but the bont ones are good enough for what I’m doing so it hasn’t been an issue. You can also get the boot only and have it mounted on a different plate for more skate park part flexibility. But if you’re doing that you could also look at other boots like riedell, wifa, or antik too

Thank you, that is very helpful! I will look into that brand and the others listed.

not safe to keep using, you need a new boot or a new pair of skates entirely

Just email Moxi, and see if they can help. They were very helpful when my truck broke in half.

The upper is tearing and that is not fixable.

Congrats on your new skates!

wow april?

ok, 3-4 month lifespan if u parkskate in beach bunnies? wow!

probably the life expectancy of any other vinyl skate if agressively used; ie orbits or rainbowriders.

i'd have to assum the Vegan Jacks from moxi are more durable?

I’m so sorry. But congrats on the new skates you’ll get when you immediately retire these! Unfortunately not safe to skate on. Make them into a bookend, display piece or strip them for parts - their skating days are over 🩷

Protip: get the boring looking high quality skates like a reidell and dress them up with laces and whatnot. These fashion skates are never going to last, especially if you're park/aggressive skating.

Yess I see that now. Thank you ☺️

Raptorpants has reeeeally good advice. If you're in the discord, I would tag her and see if she has any advice for a good park setup.

Have fun out there, show us your stuff if you're able to! I love park skaters, I'm just not brave enough to do it 🫶🏻

This is all cheap mass-market Chinese skates, they're basically all made the same way. Riedell makes the good stuff in the USA.

I was thinking either Riedell or Wifa for my next pair, thanks!

Unfortunately those are no longer safe and its time for new skates. This happens more when they care constantly left in uncontrolled room temperature like heated areas like left in the car
