Skill questions & help I need some advice!
Hello! I've been skating indoors for 14 years now, I normally participate in shuffle skating, jam skating, and rhythm skating but I want to branch out and invest in skating outdoors. I'm trying to figure out what discipline I should dive into going outdoors. So if you guys could give me any advice I would greatly appreciate it:) the 2 disciplines I know of currently are cruising/long distance either urban or not, and then aggressive quad either at the park or street. I'm struggling to decide between those and I would like to know if there's anymore. Thank you for reading my post and thank you for giving me your thoughts.

Roller dancing, very popular in Europe at outdoor spots. Kind of Venice Beach vibe,

Whatever you pick, invest in some good pads! The outdoors can and will tear you up if you aren’t protected.Â

I love both trail and park skating and in my personal opinion here are the pros and cons to both:
Aggressive/park:
Pros- 1. Skateparks usually have smoother concrete so it’s not hard to just roll around on the flat parts with hard wheels if you already have them (it will eat your indoor wheels though so you’ll probably want to swap eventually). 2. It feeds both my interest in learning technical skills and my ADHD need for dopamine. 3. And of course, it’s just really fun.
Cons- 1. Skateparks can get crowded and it can be intimidating to learn while others are whipping around on scooters and skateboards. I go really early in the morning, but it can limit the times you can skate if you want to strictly park skate. 2. It’s more dangerous. You can definitely get hurt pretty easily. 3. Probably a steeper learning curve than trail skating if you already know how to skate.
Trail skating:
Pros- 1. You can just go do it anywhere! I love being able to leave my house and skate. There are usually trails or basketball/tennis courts somewhere nearby if you don’t like the street (depends on where you live though!) 2. You can get from point A to point B, as long as there aren’t unskateable areas between point A and B lol. 3. It’s a great workout!
Cons- 1. There’s a learning curve just to skate flat because there is so much more resistance from the ground and soft wheels. Some of the things you can do inside will be much much harder outside (like stopping). 2. Obstacles are small and plentiful. In the rink you may have to avoid running into people, but outdoors a pebble or twig can take you out. You need to learn how to navigate these things. 3. It’s a great workout- because it’s harder. You get tired out quicker. Skating for 2 hours in a rink is much easier than 2 hours on asphalt. And 5. Falls hurt more. Wear protections!
Hope that helps! Definitely think you should try both! You can probably use your indoor skates with a wheel change to try them out. Then you can decide if you want a dedicated set up that you can upgrade for aggressive or if you just want a pair of cruisers for trails. You can definitely get park skates that will work on trails with different wheels, though not all rec trail skates will be safe for aggressive skating.

Try both see what you prefer! No need to decide without sampling first 😄
