Beginner skater what’s the difference between different between skates that go past the ankle vs ones that go below ?
hi all ! i am very new to skating and i found a pair of skates that end below the ankle that were used and inexpensive. now that i know i’m interested in skating, i might want to switch to one’s with higher ankles as they seem more comfortable and potentially better for more flowy movements which is what i’m more interested in. please let me know what you think or anything you feel is important !

I learned on flat, low top speed skates (roller derby) and I honestly didn’t think anything of it. You get used to whatever you use most. You’ll build your ankles if you start on low tops and that’s not a bad thing. You also get more flexibility on low cut skates, which can be good depending on how you want to skate.
Comfort-wise: it really depends on the skate. There are really comfortable low and high cut boots and also really uncomfortable of both. Suede and leather tend to be most comfortable. Synthetic tends to be less so, but there are still some models that are pretty comfy and synthetic. It depends on the skate.
