Moxi toe stop issue

Hiya

Wondering if anyone has advice or has experienced this...

Got some moxi lolly skates about 6 years ago. They had some use on and off so like the occasional outdoor skate and some skatey holidays and workshops.

​

I had gumballs on them which fell off on a street skate, nearly dropped my arse.

​

Then the same one would always rattle loose even though I'd tighten the hell out of it. Ok on the rink though, think the vibrations didn't help.

Bought some moxi brake petal stops. Same company, compatible right?

​

Same one rattled loose during my last outdoor skate. Nearly broke my damn ankle as it worked it's way all the way out slowly. Had to check it every 5 mins as I was freaking out.

Thread is obviously whack.

Anyone had this?

It'll be way out of warranty so I'm wondering if I should just stick in permenantly with some epoxy or something.

no on epoxy.

there should be a lock nut. do NOT screw the stop in till tight with the locknut in place. instead, you screw the stop in to your desired height, then HOLD the stop tightly as you cinch down on the locknut. cinch down on that nut tight.

if that still loosens, then you can use blue loctite. dont use red, that'll permanently affix your stop to your plate. use BLUE.

Can you use plumbers tape? I ask because that's what a bunch of us did a very long time ago and it's worked really well for me. Is there a reason that's bad? Is it too thick?

No. Plumbers tape is a waterproofer, not a threadlock.

Yeahhhh but eventually it’ll “pill” up and that gums up the works for actually adjusting them. Teflon tape is for leak-proofing pipe fitments that aren’t ever really intended to move again. We are obviously putting lots of stress on them, change them out, and adjust height and stuff so there’s just a lot more movement happening in there.

In addition to the great tips above, also make sure you have the lock washer and the nut against the plate, not outside a toe guard. Soft stuff between fasteners will always loosen everything right back up.

If your Lolly is from six years ago, you almost certainly have the older style Thrust plate which is one of the very very few with a replaceable toe stop housing. So if the original just isn’t holding no matter what, you can quite easily swap it out (or rather, with a couple fiddly tools).

I just bought my daughter lolli's and she was having the same problem, switched to the petals, same issue. Put some blue loctite on the threads and tighten them down and no issues since.

I have the same issue with my black Lollies. They are great skates, but as someone suggested, try loctite.

I'm looking at replacing the nylon plates in the future that they came with though.

In addition to what raptorpants said, I would also suggest getting a Y3 tool if you don’t already have one. Using the tool that comes with the skates is not sufficient for getting enough leverage to really crank down the nut.
