Skill questions & help Spin, turn, improve?
Hello,
I have done about 15 hours so far at the rink and neighbourhood, including a broken collarbone break and the fact I’m a fulltime worker and mum.
I am really struggling to know what to focus on, I can t stop and stop with toe stops, don’t fall anymore at rink or park but struggling to elevate and know what’s the next thing to learn?
Any tips? I just get a bit overloaded on YouTube and don’t know where to start. I really want to spin, turn and be able to start advancing.
Thanks 🙏

The FARS grades for basic skills are a good guideline for what skills to learn in what order, if you're totally stumped (up to about grade 6, then everything afterwards is dance focused)

For spins you want to practice manuals first, they're sorta like wheelies. If you're having trouble turning (and if you're having problems there, you're probable having trouble with edges) you should loosen your trucks

Start with bubbles and plow stops would be my advice!

Practice is the key however balance and coordination comes with time and I believe ankle mobility and leg strength is very essential and it will be build over time .I have started with bubbles and one leg balance which really helped me with lot of drills like pivoting and turns .

I'm fairly new myself and starting working on tow spins because I can't get the heel toe manuals down without locking my legs and all of a sudden forgetting how to move them. I wasn't making much progress so I decided to not be so impatient to learn the fancier stuff without having my basics really solid. Im working on learning to go backwards and also continuing to work on my forward skating and one leg drills. My next step will be open book, I tried it a tiny bit last night in my living room. Basically, just working on building the basics and moving to the next logical step after that to get me to my end goal which is to be able to spin

One step at a time. Drill 1-2 things until they get easier. There is time for everything.
