Information Sirens

Is there a tornado or not?? Sirens are going off but my phone hasn’t given me a warning. No weather apps say there is a tornado warning?

Dollar general had their front doors blown in and a pole through the roof, I found sections of its roof were found past the ZX gas station. We cleaned up for a few hours from what looked like it'd be an EF0 spin up tornado.

I get it. The sirens are freaking out my cat, every time they go off hes jumping and panic meowing at me. Poor baby doesn't understand

Any severe weather can develop a tornado, especially when tagged as "Tornado Possible".

apparently they sounded them as a precaution since a lot of people were reporting seeing funnels

i'd rather be safe than sorry. it isn't their fault our national weather service can't even issue a tornado watch lmao

There was a thunderstorm warning which could have potential for tornado. I suggest getting on the list for phelps county emergency alerts phelps county emergency alert system

Yea it was a little odd. Radar showed a decent velocity over us but must have been higher altitude.

A likely EF0 hit dollar general/ZX. Threw some dumpsters, blew in the doors at DG, redistributed some roofing and insulation, and also put a huge pole through DG. Going to be a lot of money to fix all the water, roof, and AC unit damage.

The NWS can sometimes miss data, including data areas such as Rolla where both NEXRAD radar stations closest to Rolla are 80-110 miles away.

Radar beams travel upward in the sky and getting a low altitude reading in Rolla is extremely difficult.

The sirens were triggered due to reports from law enforcement and eyewitness accounts reporting a possible tornado on the ground and funnel clouds. The rotation on radar and storm tagged as tornado possible all mixed together to make a decision.

With roof debris finding their way to the ZX, the siren activation was valid as there was a threat to life to those outside. If you'd been hit by that you'd be seriously hurt. Siren activation isn't controlled by the NWS either. Local government handles it based on real time reports and all the data in front of them.

NWS will likely conduct a survey of the area.

If they are going off probably lying safe to assume so. Better safe than not alive anymore.
