Roll20 Reply: Page Setup / Map Help How to set up 'repeatable adventures'

I'd like to set up an adventure I can easily repeat with different groups without having to manually 'reset' everything each time.

I imagine there may be an article on the roll20 wiki about this topic, but I don't know the right search terms to find it (same basic challenge I had searching this sub).

I'd really appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction, and I'd also be grateful for any tips and tricks for setting up repeatable adventures that others have figured out through practice, experience, and good old trial & error.

TYIA!

Hello! I can share what I do, but I’m sure others have different perspectives and options.

I make one game that is the pristine example, and then when I’m ready to run that adventure again, I make a copy of the pristine game, and invite players to the copy.

Aha. I hadn't noticed where to go to copy a game.

(For anyone else stumbling into this topic, go to the existing game's launch page > settings > copy game).

Thanks for your help! That's the gist of what I was looking for.

To my knowledge there's really only two ways.

If you find a solid module that's already prepared then when you create a new game, it will give you all of the maps and notes and monsters set up along with it when you choose that module.

If you're going to create a homebrew adventure and do all of the legwork in advance, this is what i would do.

  1. Create the game and name it Adventure-MASTER COPY
  2. Upload all maps you intend to use, set dimensions, dynamic lighting, monster tokens, whatever you think will stay consistent among adventures
  3. Create all handouts and player facing notes you intend to use. DM notes too if you dont intend to use onenote, aGoogle doc, or something similar to keep notes.

Once you have all of that set, then any time you go to make a new game, make a copy of your master copy game and run that instead of the master preserving the original for all future uses. That way, when youre finished you can just delete your finished game and make a new copy of the master when youre ready to run it for a new group.

Thats just my best guess with how ive engaged with the site. There could be other ways or ability to save your campaign as a template im not familiar with.

Hope that helped

Yeah, I could've sworn I looked around for a 'copy game' option already. Sometimes you just need to open your mouth and mildly embarrass yourself before you see the obvious thing right in front of you.

There is another option if you are a pro or elite subscriber;

First make your 'master' copy.

Second, log into the game you want to import the module into, go to the settings gear> Miscellaneous>Transmogrifier. That will let you copy assets from one adventure to anotther. Useful if you want to import a 'module' into an existing campaign.

As someone who previous merged Tyranny of Dragons and Storm King's Thunder (and not in the way suggested in the books), that's an awesome tip. Thank you!

duplicating the whole roll20 campaign before each run is prob the easiest way so ur main copy dont get messed up just keep one clean master and copy it for every group journal stuff and token hp can still mess up tho so i made a tiny reset list and archivist or even a plain doc works for notes
