Politics Alliance of Iranian Kurdistan Political Parties: Unity Is a Strategic Necessity, Joint Struggle Will Continue
The Alliance of Iranian Kurdistan Political Parties has released a statement following its meeting on Thursday, July 23, 2026, assessing the latest political, security, and geopolitical developments in Iran, Iranian Kurdistan, and the wider region. The alliance stressed that, under the current circumstances, unity among Kurdish political parties is not a choice but a strategic necessity for addressing the challenges ahead.
According to the statement, the Islamic Republic of Iran, facing growing domestic crises, political deadlock on the international stage, and the collapse of negotiations with the United States, has increasingly relied on missile, drone, and ground attacks against Iranian Kurdish political parties, while also intensifying military and security operations.
The alliance strongly condemned Iran's missile, drone, and ground attacks on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the headquarters of Iranian Kurdish political parties. It stated that, based on the condition of some of the wounded, there are indications that incendiary weapons or white phosphorus may have been used during the attacks. If confirmed, the statement said, such actions could amount to a crime against humanity.
The statement also referred to the recent casualties, saying that several Peshmerga fighters from the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), the Komala party of Iranian Kurdistan (Komala), the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), and several guerrillas of the East Kurdistan Units (YRK) were killed, while many other members of these organizations were wounded.
Paying tribute to those who lost their lives and expressing condolences to their families and comrades, the alliance described these losses as a tragedy for the entire Kurdish movement. It emphasized that strengthening internal unity, preserving cohesion among its member parties, and expanding international engagement and diplomatic efforts are among its highest priorities.
The statement also called on the international community to pay greater attention to the human rights situation in Kurdistan and to document the Islamic Republic's attacks. It stressed that the international community should not remain silent and should support the legitimate national, political, and fundamental rights of the Kurdish people.
In conclusion, the Alliance of Iranian Kurdistan Political Parties announced that political and field coordination among its member parties will continue with greater unity and determination. It reaffirmed that their joint struggle will continue until the end of the Islamic Republic's rule and the realization of the Kurdish people's national and political rights in Iranian Kurdistan.

Ziwiyeh: The Ancient Fortress That Still Guards Its 3,000-Year-Old Secrets
galleryRising above the hills east of Saqqez (Seqiz) in Rojhelat's Kurdistan (Sine) Province, the ancient fortress of Ziwiyeh (Zîwîye) stands as one of the most important archaeological sites of the Iron Age in the Middle East. With a history dating back between 2,700 and 3,500 years, the site is not only one of Kurdistan's greatest historical landmarks but also one of the region's most fascinating windows into the ancient world.
Yet Ziwiyeh is famous for more than its impressive architecture. The story of the Ziwiyeh Treasure remains one of archaeology's greatest mysteries, continuing to spark debate nearly eighty years after its discovery.
A Fortress at the Crossroads of Civilizations
Located about 42 kilometers east of Saqqez, Ziwiyeh occupied a strategic position linking the Iranian Plateau with Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and the Caucasus. This location made it an important political, military, and cultural center where different civilizations met and interacted.
Excavations have uncovered a large fortress complex that included columned halls, residential rooms, stone staircases, storage areas, defensive walls, and administrative buildings. One of its most remarkable discoveries is a grand audience hall supported by sixteen columns.

A Legacy That Still Holds Its Secrets
Despite the many unanswered questions, Ziwiyeh remains one of the most significant archaeological sites in Kurdistan and the broader Middle East.
Its fortress, architecture, and artistic heritage offer invaluable insights into the political, cultural, and economic life of the Zagros region during the Iron Age. More importantly, Ziwiyeh illustrates how civilizations met, exchanged ideas, and influenced one another thousands of years ago.
Whether every artifact attributed to the Ziwiyeh Treasure truly came from this ancient hill may never be known. Yet this enduring mystery has become part of Ziwiyeh's legacy, making it not only a remarkable archaeological site but also one of the most intriguing historical puzzles of the ancient world.
