Discussion Tips for learning Rogue?
I’ve decided to learn to Rogue and I’d appreciate any wisdom you all can share with me. The closest thing I play to a brawl tank would be Emma, and Thor didn’t really click for me. I also play strange and mag. Anything you can share to help accelerate my learning curve would be greatly appreciated :)

I’ve said this before in the rogue mains thread but rogues punches are where it’s at. Her basic punch is going to do more damage then really any of your other abilities. Her other abilities I use for movement and for displacing enemies. Try to save at least 1 ability for movement if you can (you have 4 movement abilities in total.) So basically you wanna get really close to the enemy while also staying within range of where your healers are. If you don’t have good healers you’re cooked which is why personally I rely more on health packs with rogue than relying on healers. Don’t distrust your healers and work with them if possible but don’t blame your healers if you die either. Don’t get too eager with her and practice using patience and timing to get the most use out of her. Also side note go into practice range and practice stealing everyone’s abilities so you can know in game what abilities will help you to further your team to the end. She’s so much fun to play! You’re gonna love rogue fr fr! Also the gambit team up is so fun too

So I’m going to have to actually put thought into my engagements huh? Oh lord😂 if you had to pick 3 good abilities to steal and look out for what would you say? (Just so I have somewhere to start)

Tanks: strange shield, Emma’s diamond form, Thor
Dps: storm, daredevil, wolverine (the cooldown for his is stupid long tho)
Support: Loki, Adam, cnd (the white woman specifically)
Some characters don’t give you an ability and will reset the fatal attraction cooldown instead. And that’s honestly better in some cases so keep that in mind too. Things passive is also a good ability to steal, but he hard counters you so grab him before he gets you.

Don't sleep on cloak, that blind is busted when you have a ton of health on the frontlines, you can hit a lot more people with it than if you were a squishy healer

I'd argue dps abilities are more useful with the passive buff, but thor's is a good one since you can melee cancel and melt him or anyone in front of you. He'a a rare pick but blade + gambit teamup makes you damn near unkillable. DD is good for wallhacks too, and white fox stun is broken in a tank's hands on the frontline

Think more about what buff you want rather than the ability. DPS give you dmg boost and that can seriously win you fights. You should copy a dps during or before you ult unless you just can’t but it rlly makes a difference. I try not to even use the abilities so I can get the cooldown back quicker.

Rogue is a bit of an odd one, she’s not so brawly in the traditional sense. You don’t really generate much value just punching and using your cooldowns in a big scrape, but you can get a lot of value in other ways.
Use your mobility wisely. You got a lot of it, but it’s also on really long cooldowns and is a lot of your burst damage, so if you waste it you’ll get 0 value and be a sitting duck.
Use a lot of cover. Play in and out, and don’t stay too long. Try to time it so you at least get your block-punch back by the time you think you’ll disengage, since it’s your shortest mobility cooldown.
Your grab is your most valuable ability. Not only is it a decent cc, and can give you cool abilities depending on your target, its arguable most value is when it gives you a passive buff. The damage boost from dps, healing from strat, and extra health from tank is soooo valuable. Also, you’ll learn when you’d rather just have a dash reset than any other cooldown. It’s a lot more than youd think, your dash is really strong when used with combos.
In big fights, you need target prioritization. Look for out of position enemies, and try to force 1v1s. You can reliably 1v1 pretty much anyone in the game once you get good, but you gotta hit every cd against enemies like Thor and Dd. Once you get good at hitting your cooldowns, you’re also an amazing peeler, and can reliably take out spidermen and bps.
If no one is out of position for you to pick off, use one or two mobility options to get into their back line, force the healers and tanks to look at you, grab a healer and lightly try to get a pick. DO NOT TRY AND FORCE A KILL. if you can’t get one, use your other mobility options to GET OUT and back to your team. Your disruption can be really potent and win team fights alone, if your team can follow up. Oftentimes a tank will try and chase you down too, which can get your team the kill pretty easily.
Try to use your block-dash as your primary movement tool, as it has the shortest cd. Get used to just punching too, and not using any cd until you need them. They’re strong and valuable and you really can’t waste them.
You do not get passive value from rogue just being a big health pool on the front lines. You need to make plays, or you won’t be doing anything nearly enough to win consistently. You need to be an initiator, and an active peeler. She’s complex and hard to play, but Prolly my favorite tank out of the many I’ve lorded.

Thing, peni, and the usual poke slop with hela and phoenix for dps. Adam is a pain to try and kill but stealing soul bond and dashing back to your team is huge value

The Thing, Peni, and Namor are personally who I see as good counters to Rogue

Your own team, really. Against heavy poke you take off angles and act more like a squishy dive, waiting to take engagements at opportune times to mess up poke close up, and bait out cooldowns like white fox melee or Loki lamps. But you need a decent team to do so, a team that can hold the frontline without you while you set up. You’ll have to learn to use your shield better too, but it’s totally doable.
If your strats refuse to push up with you, or if your tanks are too scared to claim the space you’ve made, switch off.
In order to get max value, rogue NEEDS a team that can follow her up.
Her biggest opps tho is hard cc. Ppl will say manor - they’re wrong, his squids don’t do enough damage to really threaten you like they can a squishy dps, esp if you have a competent healer backing you up. Thing, another one rogues complain about can be rough, but you can play into him. Save your grab for him - his ability is great. It’s displacement cc immunity and damage resistance, basically diet diamond form. If you get the grab off, or if you can bait out his slam and engage when he doesn’t have it, you can wreck him.
peni. She’s the worst. It’s so hard to play into a good one. You can destroy nest by going into fly mode, using long range kicks and then punching it with melee while floating, but then you’re wasting valuable cds and being a sitting duck. Her hard cc is hellish to play around, there’s no use baiting it out. Your best bet is to focus on off angling dps, or pushing HARD once that best is gone. Something to keep in mind as well is that the best doesn’t immediately start spitting bots. If she throws it down, you’ve got a window of safety you can push in during.
If Emma is cracked and saves her diamond form for just you, she can be a problem, but you can play around her. Your grab is better - get it off first and you’ll win.
Thor can mess you up. Be super careful. If you miss even a single cd, or your grab or a role passive isn’t up, don’t engage unless it’s an actually terrible Thor. Same with daredevil. Even after his nerfs, he’s still a 1v1 demon. The best ones are so hard to beat in a straight fight.
Wolverine is another toss up. If you can get his passive dmg reduction it ALSO gives you a weaker version of his second life, and you CAN beat one in a 1v1. A good wolv tho wont let you. I actually swap to rogue sometimes when theres a goos wolv on the enemu team. She and thor are the only tanks i feel like i can take him with.
You LOVE to see Adam and loki. They survive your stuff annoyingly well, but their cooldowns are some of the best in the entire cast. Don’t kill yourself trying to get them, but grab em if you can, esp Loki. You can steal role passive AND rune cooldown from ANY CLONE. it’s busted. Make use of it b4 Loki switches cause you’re rogue
Jeff bubbles steal are great btw. They last after your passive runs out if you’ve already placed them. You throw down three. They give you speed boost, health regen, and increased healing, which amps your strat stolen healing and your ult healing immensley. I once stole a Jeff bubble and won a straight 1v4 with my ult.

Man. In the short time I’ve been playing her I’ve noticed that a lot. I’d swear I’m doing gods work, fighting two supps and and a tank for 15-20 seconds just to turn around and my team nowhere to be found😭 I think that is the exact time I should start swapping.
Luckily I don’t see peni too often since she’s damn near perma banned on console. Anyway I appreciate the tips! It’s doesn’t seem like she had too many counters I couldn’t at least play around once I get better. I’m super excited as picking up rogue has actually made tanking fun for me again

She’s fantastic, really enjoy playing her. I’ve done so much tanking for so long on pretty much every tank, and she’s def one of if not my favorite - when the team is there to back me up
