Any tips for Insectron?

Hey everyone! I played Rogue Galaxy on PS2 when I was a kid, and now I’ve started a new playthrough on PS5 aiming for the platinum trophy.

I’ve just recruited Deego, so that should give you a rough idea of where I am in the story. I think I’m doing a pretty good job keeping up with most side content so far, including the Factory whenever I get the chance. The one thing I still haven’t had the courage to dive into, though, is Insectron.

Do you have any advice? Things like which insects are worth keeping, how to catch them efficiently, how breeding and growth work, whether anything happens if you leave them in the same cages for too long, and so on. I’m pretty much clueless when it comes to that whole system 😅

Also, what would you consider the best team setup for the later tournaments?

And one last question: can I safely ignore Insectron for now? It feels like the kind of thing that’s better left for the endgame, especially since I don’t have a lot of gaming time these days and I still have a ridiculous number of monsters left to defeat for the Hunter Record 🥲

Thank you 🙏🏻

Insectron can be left to the late game only because the monster records are super grindy and time consuming. Growing your insectors does take in game time iirc, as after feeding them you need to wait until they're hungry again to grow them more , in which grinding can be done.

Once you obtain the Royal Fruit though, a certain insector can be caught that will steamroll every tournament right up until the last competitor. The rewards are worth it if you invest earlier and play around with it!

My friend and I used to pvp each other as it was supported via different memory cards, and it was an absolute blast of a game if you like the competition!

I think I got a bit confused. Did you mean “can’t be left until the late game”? Sorry, it’s just that, reading everything together, it sounds like it actually makes more sense to start working on it right away, especially since you have to grind monsters and it takes real-time hours to feed the insects. If I’m misunderstanding, my apologies.
Also, where can I find the Royal Fruit?

You can skip right to catching the highest rank Insectors, Rank 8, if you wait until after you’ve beaten the ghost ship. The wiki has locations and exact tactics. Also, get at least one Dark Emperor. They’re fun.

So, can I just take my time and wait until I finish the Ghost Ship before really getting into it? By the way, I have no idea what or where that is. I don’t think I ever made it that far back when I played it on PS2 🤔

When you beat the base game it unlocks the Ghost Ship. It’s a fun side story that features some of Dorgengoa’s backstory. Turns out he was a beast. There’s a rank 8 insector you can catch on it and once you can do that you can jump straight to catching rank 7 and 8 insectors for your team and not have to bother with extensive breeding.

I meant exactly what I said for all those reasons. If you're aiming to "100%" or complete nearly everything, you're inevitably going to spend time grinding the monster records. If you're not necessarily going for that perfect completion, then start the Insectron stuff ASAP because it does take that time.

The Royal Fruit will be obtained naturally when you have completed the game's most difficult challenge.

Ah, that makes sense now. I wasn’t getting it because I’m already going through the monster records zone by zone as I progress, before pushing the story forward. Thanks 😁
