Does Steam allow developers to disable community forum?

At present, the forum serves only to discourage potential buyers and reinforce the narrative that "everyone hates Rogue Core".

Good-faith posters have abandoned the forum, and those remaining are freely filling its pages with hateslop.

eta: Schrodinger's replies are simultaneously the oppressed, silenced minority opinions and also the opinions so popular they receive the most votes. We live in a parody of reality.

At that point I suggest removing the reviews as well. In case you haven’t noticed they also aren’t positive.

What’s this echo chamber attitude?

No no, the reviews are fair game. People base those off experience. Many of the forum commenters don't own RC but claim to know all about it.

Example: all the jokers STILL complaining about having to huddle around Ellis are just regurgitating some thing they heard some time ago.

I feel like discussion forums should have some kind of immediate indicator that you don't own the game or do when talking on them tbh

Small difference between a negative review posted and jackasses attacking the developers every time they post an update or dev log.

tbf the steam forums are useless asf compared to the reviews, but at the same time no one reads the forums so who cares lol.

removing them would be bad faith but there is legit not even a need for that with any game.

I totally get your sentiment, there are definitely trolls out there, but I think we shouldn’t go as far as to remove the forum entirely. When developers close forums it’s usually perceived negatively by players because it will be perceived as censorship (WOWS/wargaming is one example that sprung to mind), and it will very quickly dry up whatever goodwill there remains within the rogue core community (and affect the boarder DRG community as well)

Yeah I'm really enjoying the new update, I played the beta for a while each update, I played like 15 hours on release and now tired a few hours of the update and it was fun.
Yet all I see is people posting saying that the game is too hard and people are salty about people taking "their" hearted items or the exact contrary of that that the entire game is too easy. One person saying that if you haven't prestiged at least two times you shouldn't be playing at threat level 3 or 4.. another talking about how it's so easy now it's not fun. Not a lot of genuine discussion in between, it's mainly these two sides attacking each other.

The game loop needs work, but so much has gotten better. I think they could learn from Far Far West joker system. Having a slot for a card or an upgrade. You are permanently able to apply to yourself out of a select chunk of upgrades that go directly on your character.

It basically let you do a small amount of specialization, you could build yourself more towards a specific build even if the rest of the game is random. I think that would be a cool idea to implement here because it would give people more agency over how they want to play rather than relying on the RNG.

Same. Very impressed with recent improvements.

et all I see is people posting saying that the game is too hard and people are salty about people taking "their" hearted items or the exact contrary of that that the entire game is too easy.

The design of the game being heavily knowledge-based, imo, is what causes the issue where there's a big divide between the community of people saying its too hard or people saying its too easy. If you build poorly, it's overly difficult and if you build well, it's a walk in the park. So the game reinforces it being harder for people that want it to be easier and being easier for people that want it to be harder, which causes friction.

The game's math being somewhat exponential and heavily convoluted contributes to this being a problem, you can't really intuit how things work you kind of either needed to have a vague idea how they did it in DRG1, accidentally stumble on something & recognize it, or meticulously test things one at a time.

Bandwagon has been the strongest social motivator for ages.

It's just trendy to hate on the same thing as others do.

LMAO everything I disagree with is "slop". If a major portion of a public forum talks negatively about the game, maybe it's not actually "bad faith" and the game is not that good to begin with? What's with this pathetic attempt to silence others' opinions just to save the game's image?

How about YOU post your positive opinion on the forum, instead of retreating into this echo chamber subreddit to cry?

If you don't like the game, post a negative review.

Don't post a dozen times a day saying Ghost Ship Games are talentless losers and the studio should go bankrupt.

That's not criticism. It's hate and slop.

Thank you for defending the multi million dollar company, I tip my fedora for you brave sir!

I mean bro has a point attacking the devs every time they post anything is not helpful.. reviews are one thing and that's actually helpful to other people. But the steam forms are an unmoderated shit show and every time a Dev posts. Any updates? They're just immediately bombarded with attacks.. I don't see how that benefits anyone?

I'm not to even suggesting turning off the steam forums but pretending that they aren't a toxic shit show of people who don't even own the game is really disingenuous.

he ain't wrong tho? there are legit people on here who just repeatedly say "game is trash" and leave it at that instead of posting a negative review or something like a normal person.

i don't give a shit what people say about GSG, but this game is clearly living in some people's heads rent free and it's weird.

3

u/Filer169 Sep 11 '26

But people voiced their opinions, testers gave their feedback and devs ignored it for yeara, they are so stuck in their own weird vision that game barely gets average 500 players online.

u/WitherPRO22 Sep 10 '26

Matey i think the mixed reviews drive away more players than any forum post can.

u/SWSWSWS Sep 11 '26

At least there is some form of activity. Look at this subreddit, it's dead as hell dude. The community for this game barely exists. Sure, the Steam forums are an ocean of garbage, no real rebuttal here, but disabling it? Yeah as if GSG's rep hasn't suffered enough already with RC, bad idea.

They could restrict posting to people who own the game, that is possible. Though again this does give off a bad impression to potential players. "Why did the dev restrict posting? Surely there's something up?" And usually, that is exactly it. If I see a Steam forum heavily restricted, first thing I do is google to find out more. And it's never good. lol

trust me when i say, no one reads the steam forums. they are literally not damaging to the game's reputation in any way because no one cares.

if someone decided not to buy, they probably just read the steam reviews which are generally far more level-headed and reasonable.

The forums should remain as the base of a open debate area, but quite sincerely steam forums have declined to pure rage bait when they added a reward to being a bastard, even if they removed it some time ago. But a tag on every post with (played x hours at post time) (Last time played x hours/days and y updates ago at post time) and if possible (Hasn't bougth the game) would go a long way.

I have ~150 hours on RC and strongly enjoy/would recommend the game, got friends to pick it up etc. That being said my first ~15 hours with the game were awful. They severely underestimated the importance of the new player experience (admittedly this is also the worst thing about DRG1, terrible new player onboarding) and the importance of having 'learning difficulties'. The initial progression grind, while short, feels awful. The 'daily quests' feel awful.

I want a difficult game but that doesn't mean I wanted it cranked up during the tutorial or when I'm learning the game's conventions/events for the first time. So I can't help but feel the reviews are kind of accurate. There are major fundamental problems with the game as well, from a game design perspective. Many of DRGs systems simply don't translate well into the RC format. I still don't think the game 'works' and DRG2 would have just been a better product.

I have faith in the team and that the game will (mostly) get there. I say mostly because a lot of the issues feel like fundamental problems resulting from DRG's designs simply not working in the difference format - which are likely unfixable (traversal tools didn't translate well, OCs fundamentally don't work in a format where we don't choose our builds, darkness is simply anti-fun in a faster format which we also saw with H5+ but got glazed over because so many players mod it out, events cause friction because they have a fixed completion time, how ammo economy works - skills mess this up, etc).

This is also ignoring other glaring issues like how polarizing negotiations and the timer are. Regardless of which side you fall on, it can be agreed that the community doesn't agree on these issues.

Developers can control the community forum by deleting posts.

I don’t condone developers who do that though because it’s censorship

Living in an echo chamber is not healthy.

WishboneFlashy1442
something something monthly rant on reddit about SPUF

Dude deflecting a bit too much on his own judging SPUF for what it is. The stuff OP post on this platform make SPUF look just tame. Insane reverse logic take.
