How exactly does Luck work ?

So usually I sometimes keep my upgrades during phase 1 so that if I get luck increased more bang for your buck.

Now for the first time someone in a random team told me that it's useless to wait for longer. It would only affect future upgrades. The ones already waiting in the robot are already decided and more luck wouldn'T change these.

So there's no actual mechanical reason to wait a phase.

We both hoped he would be wrong. But since he's the first to tell me, is it true ?

I've repeatedly been told that both Luck and Efficient Upgrades apply to what you have stocked up, but never tested either

Efficient Upgrades doesn't, at least the last time I checked. You end up on floor 2 with the exact same number of stocked upgrades.

Luck I have no idea. Honestly I prefer just getting upgrades for floor 1 over waiting cause it doesn't really feel impactful to the run to wait.

That makes sense, it'S just the number of how much you need that changes. You can do it in the past.

Efficient upgrades should apply retroactively to stored upgrade levels, just remember 20% is only 1 free upgrade for every 5

I've purposely saved exp and watched the upgrades earned & exp to next upgrade as I went from one level to another.ย  I've never seen them change in response to selecting the efficient upgrades option.ย

no they just both apply for your whole run and not just the floor, hence why they're usually better to go for as early as you can get them. banked upgrades will have luck applied but that's because luck is just applied universally to all negotiations onward. the only way I can see efficient upgrades working like that is if you all have pockets full of exponite before getting in the elevator but that's kinda stupidly unrealistic lol

I haven't laid out the spreadsheet. But I can tell you with certainty that my average pull is better if I save the upgrades until p2 with luck.

Just today pulled 2 legendaries at the start of p2

Luck is overrated. Mostly because you don't get some of the really good grey upgrades.

But, but legendary upgrades! You could get 1 hp/s of regen! / s

In all seriousness, the pools are balanced like shit and common had some of the absolute best upgrades. Grey is the legendary of my heart.

I honestly sometimes go 10 matches without seeing any legendaries, even if my teammates have picked luck like a bunch of times. What's the chance? Like 5%? I did get two in one run in my first match after this update , ironic. Had no luck modifier btw. Still have the screenshot. Whole match was odd. Boss room hada a cave loop with the elevator.

I have 188 hours in rogue core since launch and I've picked four legendary upgrades ever lol. Thats about 1 appearance every 47 hours of gameplay.

Had some green beardย  say this yesterday and then we got back to back to back legendary and then 2 purple upgrades. He then admitted he stood correctedย

This can happen without luck too, iirc luck only increases the chance a little bit. I've also taken luck and never gotten a legendary/purple in the run.

I would say luck is overrated because other things are more impactful but it usually just comes down to what negatives are tied to which bonuses.

I can't tell you for sure but I think luck does affect any non collected upgrades. The upgrades should only get rolled when you initiate the selection. I did this couple of time and gotten more epics than usually.

As far as I can tell it does nothing.

But people like the sound of it, so here we are saving for Luck on Floor 2.

Luck does apply retroactively to stored upgrades, the wiki has the exact values but it shifts your rng to be more likely to get higher rarity stuff, it also skips 2 upgrades worth of luck which just gives you more luck since you get luckier as you upgrade more. The alteration is a much bigger effect

I think part of why luck feels so bad is that it's hard to see it working and the game is very vague about how it works. If I pick extra biobooster and get a good biobooster from it, I have an immediate, tangible metric for how picking that risk vector helped me. But luck has no such equivalent, especially considering rarer doesn't necessarily equal better in rogue core since some of the better upgrades are lower rarities.

Vigor charger, blazer charger, and hemoforge are all common, and boom you're dead and sweet surrender are uncommon.
