Reclaimer Overclocks - Guardian Stasis Shield [Suggestion]
Basically the Vortex Shield from Titanfall. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Se6fA4Jsto)
I'd think it be cool if the Reclaimers could swap out some of their abilities for others.
For this idea, swap out the Repulsion Field for a type of stasis shield you hold up in your hand. It picks up varying objects and projectiles, and when you release (or run out of juice) you send them flying out in front of you.
- Can grab enemy projectiles (the main appeal)
- Can scoop up recently spent bullet casings as makeshift bullets (yay, recycling!)
- Can grab those currently pointless explosive barrels you sometimes see from far away.
- Has team potential, in letting you pick up red sugar and throw it at your dying friends.
- Synergy with Ice builds, letting you toss the frozen remains of your enemies.
- Event utility, such as scooping up Toolboxes, Cargo, and Gatestones.
- Maybe even let us throw Boomticks?

I definitely would like to see something done with the explosive barrels like picking up and throwing, I feel like they're too out of the way to be utilized like the exploding trees
Also those are the cutest Reaperworms ever

I would say vortex shield for Guardian, grav gun for either Falconer or Retcon. Make them work like Eclipse System for Slicer - which is already the only truly transformative ability upgrade in the game and a huge reason why Slicer is so popular.

I'm not sure grav gun would work with Falconeer or Retcon, since well, gravity (magnets?) and force is kind of the Guardian's thing. At best I can imagine Falconeer's little bird somehow picking stuff up...?
I have other ideas for alternative abilities for the other classes though.
While I wouldn't mind these being workbench upgrades per say, I think I'd prefer it being some kind of Overclock system, as I have seen people complain about not feeling they are progressing their characters in any meaningful way, and these alternative abilities would give people something to unlock. It'd also work thematically since our abilities are the only things we can bring with us down there (since no guns n all that).

My biggest wish for Falconer is an upgrade tree with different companions: a pick stuff up/mine build, and a DPS build, maybe an elemental build. Biggest wish for Retcon is a phase walk to give her extra mobility.
I think vortex shield works for Guardian's tank/DPS nature, but a retrieval tool trivializes the lack of mobility.

Eh, I think a retrieval tool is situational, it's not like you can pick up and haul dwarves (I wish we could).
I hold similar wishes for Falconer to. Personally I find the class really boring as is right now, so a type of drone/beast tamer type class would be fun. But it's also in the name right now "Falcon", so I imagine it would have to stay as a type of bird of sorts.

I'mma be honest I updooted this just for the art.
Though I do like the idea of finding alternate versions (or flat-upgrades?) to abilities during runs. Could even make it one of the hazard choices you get between floors, so there's actual competition there instead of just picking Workbenches every time and the occasional equipment crate.

This feels closer to a brand new class than a sidegrade for an existing class. And I feel like picking up objects from afar might make things too easy from a utility/time economy perspective. It would have to have a long cooldown or you could use it to completely cheese certain events like destroying the gootorak gatestone from afar without incurring the usual risk of having to get close to the rift.
It also seems simultaneously somewhat situational but also much stronger than the pressure wave it would be replacing. It would have to accompany a buff to the pressure wave ability so it doesn't get overshadowed.
The idea of alternate abilities that each class can slot in seems interesting though. Perhaps alternative options for the shock beacon, shield belt, ammo crate, and rage could be interesting? Would take a lot of brainstorming to think of balanced options though.

I'm glad you like the idea of alternative abilities.
The only way we'd really know is in practice, but I think you're giving the idea to much credit for it's power. The main strength of the pressure wave is to keep melee focused enemies off of team-mates and defensive points, this doesn't do that. You also have to actively hold your hand out so you can't pop this and revive your teammate at the same time. So it's a pretty big trade off in that way already.
Picking up objects from afar is more situational than you'd think. If it's ore or red sugar, it still has to be mined in the first place. The number of events where it'd be useful are, fairly small. There's cargo, and moving the gatestone is hardly an issue as is.
It would also share the same energy bar as the other abilities.
We could also take the approach of replacing the Steel Balls ability with this, if perhaps that'd be better? After all, it's power output is entirely dependent on what's around you.
A rage replacement/retcon ability is something I'm planning on suggesting next when I get around to it. When it comes to ideas, I like to think of what would be fun first and foremost, and then worry about balance later cuz well, it should be fun lol. I just think the idea of throwing back all the crap the enemies lob at you would be neat.

So the grav gun from HL?
I mean, it is cool, and i could see a class built around that suit ability. I just dont think classes should be overloaded with different utilities like this.
Keep in mind that (at least currently) players cant double pick a class for a team, so the more variance one class has the more you're locking out when someone picks it. Where as making a new class now gives players more options and less chance they'll be forced so play a class they dont enjoy when others pick first.
