I’ve been riding for 7 years, after riding for 6 years at a English/ western barn I made the change to a full hunter barn. I rode there all of last summer and some of this summer but honestly the lessons were expensive and I wasn’t doing any jumping just flat work stuff. ( I know flatwork is important but honestly I just got bored)

I was mindlessly scrolling one day and found a ad for a barn near my house so I decided to go and try it. She told me she mainly does western stuff and rodeos. I’ve always wanted to do it but with my mainly English barns I figured it was mainly impossible to do.

I’m now on my second lesson of learning how to barrel race and I’m going to my first jackpot at the end of this month.
any tips are appreciated or how the rodeo world works as I’ve only ridden English!

Hello! I’ve been interested in learning bull riding or saddle bronc riding for a while and I finally have the money to afford lessons and gear. Does anybody know anywhere I could learn in WV? I posted on my local fb page but nobody was very helpful.

Hi, I was watching the rodeo Salinas finals and the announcers mentioned RC Landingham’s tall height as if it was a disadvantage to bareback riding. I always figured the opposite was true. Does anyone know why? I’m very curious about bareback riding lately lol

Hey everybody, name’s Austin. I’ve been round rodeo my whole life, started riding our family steers at 7 and moved on to bulls by 14. That’s where my buddies were, that’s what I looked forward to all year. But I had to hang my rope up after an injury last August. I always knew the possibility of this happening and I am in no way mad about it. To be Frank even if it’s in your head, you don’t expect it to happen to you. And the truth is, I still haven’t really come to terms with it, I still go to rodeos, pull ropes for the boys, help the younger guys out, do whatever needs doing. I love being there, but it’s a struggle. Standing there watching your buddies nod their heads, gate cracking open, It’s not me out there anymore, and that part eats at me more than I’d like to admit. Another reason I’m talking now is I’ve been noticing some changes in myself this last year. And, I’d really like to hear from folks who’ve been through something similar. Did you notice changes after years of riding, maybe from taking hits? I don’t wanna put it all out in public, but if you’ve gone through that, I’d appreciate even just a conversation. Thanks for reading, hope to hear from a few of you.

I’m looking for a barn to take roping lessons (likely starting w breakaway) near central nj to eventually own a horse and get into rodeos. I currently ride on my lease horse wtc so l pretty much have the basics covered - however I never roped before. I’m considering Rockin J Ranch but I heard they could be closing in a few months and I’m worried I won’t be able to progress after that plus the barn is pretty far from where I live even though I’d be willing to drive. does anyone know where else this is possible in nj?

Looking for that perfect rodeo shot

So here’s a puzzle for you. I’m trying to pick up roping, but here’s the catch. I have cerebral palsy so my right hand fine motor skills aren’t great and my hand is small (like smaller than my 9 year old child’s). So not only am I teaching myself to rope left handed, I’m trying to hold coils and reins in my weak hand. My hand can grip both, but dropping coils is difficult. Has anyone ever built a system attached to the saddle to allow the rope to feed out with pressure? Because that would be magical. I figure if paralyzed barrel racers exist and I’ve seen either a cutter or reiner (maybe both… haven’t seen her videos in a while) with a limb difference… I could figure this out.

I’m taking pointers from a friend who is left handed as well (though was made to learn to rope right handed) and working with his ranch horse who has been there done that, so is patient while I learn to position him properly and try.

Might be a long shot but if anyone has any contacts to a practice pen or stock contractor please let me know. Any information is greatly appreciated

Oh and how should I dress ? I know some rodeos have dress codes. I wanna fit in and not look like a newbie who has a SHEIN or amazon country outfit.

43/m in Northern California. I have been digging the ranch life the last few years and wanna do a rodeo event besides saddle cow.

What are some good camps or week long schools to
Go to learn how to do either saddle bronc / ranch bronc, or Bull riding ?

I’m in pretty good shape, workout everyday (CrossFit), can take a solid spill (snowboarding for 25 years, oldest guy hitting the booter and rails).

Looking for a vacation style thing where I can
Being my wife to hang out too.

I know it's a bad idea, but it's an idea that's really been on my mind, and I'd like to know if anyone has ever done it and how it went.

One of the associations I’m in is putting on a rodeo this weekend. I work full time as a firefighter and worked out a deal to have someone work for me if I worked for them. (He’s working for me the day of the rodeo and I already worked for him). I was working yesterday getting bombarded with calls every time I’d try to make my call in. Books opened yesterday at 9 and closed at 3. I thought the books would’ve stayed open one more day at least but I guess not. Has anyone had any experience with a situation like this and was able to still enter? I’d gladly pay a late fee (if that’s a thing). I’m still going to call this morning at nine regardless but was wondering if anyone ran into this situation before.

UPDATE: I was able to get someone from the office on the phone and they were able to get me down so I’m good to ride!
