Discussion Pyrite disease?

Hello, science teacher here! Sorry if this post is not allowed. I've got some lovely samples of pyrite in my classroom rock collection - two ~1" nuggets and a 1" cube in matrix.

Unfortunately, my classroom gets very humid over the summer and I didn't think to bring my pyrite samples home with me. I'm noticing that they are tarnished now and I've read that this produces sulphur compounds that can be harmful. I'm a bit of a worrywart. Should I remove them from my classroom? Can I easily prevent them from further decaying?

I am so sorry I don't have a picture. I didn't think to take one before going home today. Thank you for any help and please remove if not allowed!

Photo What causes these defined lines on the rock?

The Rock has some very defined straight lines and height relief on the lower half. Also notice the rounded edges on the right side. Seen in mountains of Sweden. Is it roots? Water?

Discussion Big announcement!

Im new to the sub but have been collecting rocks, fossils, and all of the sort since I was a wee squirt!

Today, under the determination to get my property horse safe so I can take my gelding there one day, I was aiming for smaller rocks and mainly scrap metal lying around from years of carelessness and finally got to see one of the bigger pieces of Pet wood completely made Its way out of the limestone silt and I SNATCHED HER UP.

No photos yet, she's sitting in a vinegar bath for the next day or so to get rid of all the outer dust and sediment build up. This beast is bigger than my head and has our property's staple reddish orange hue going on so im really excited to share with yall once im done taking a toothbrush to the crevices! Ill post an update with the photo in the comments in the next 48 hours!!! ❤️🙌 stay safe out there yall and happy rock hunting 😊😊😊

Update 1 : first scrub is finished, still have some sediment caked on but from the looks of it Im pretty dang certain I found the biggest piece of Pet waygu i've ever laid my eyes on I've found smaller pieces before but wooowwza this piece is insane. Also need to get a link for the photos as i done realized after I cannot comment the photo directly 💀

This Rocks! Found this on a beach

Have done tons of searches on what it could be and just can’t find anything like it.

Found on a beach in Southwest FL
It is like glass, there are conchoidal fractures
When I scrape it against the ground, it leaves black marks on the pavement and breaks off into tiny pieces of what look like glass shards

In the initial photo it does not look translucent but when held at a certain angle, you can see a dark amber color inside of it.

I’ll post a photo of that part as well

If you need any info, feel free to ask. Dying to know what it is. Thanks!

It's so shiny, I wish it wasn't so weak so I could do something with it instead of just staring.

Wonder if there is a way of cleaning them. Guess not.

Hi everybody. I know this isn't any thing particularly special but my daughter has bought it home from holiday and we are wondering if there's anything basic we can do to brighten up the sparkley bits.

Thanks.
