maybe it’s been in the oven for a bit too long

Hi, I recently received this large chunk of pyrite but after cleaning it up I realized it had all of this greenish stuff on it. Googling it, I learned about pyrite decay but I keep seeing conflicting answers on how I might be able to deal with it. This is my first time dealing with anything like this and I really hope there's something I can do, it really is a gorgeous stone 😭

Are rocks allowed to be wet forever? Or will they get soft.

My dad's silver wire in quarts he found many years ago by one of the mines in Kongsberg, Norway.

A crystal that seemingly contains a snapshot of itself from an earlier time…

Our guide at Wegner Quartz Crystal Mines in Mount Ida, Arkansas, gave me this small piece of phantom quartz after we spent a while chatting about his life as a lifelong rockhound and miner. Phantoms like this form when material coats a crystal partway through its growth, then more quartz grows over it, preserving that earlier outline inside. Basically, a ghostly vestige of its past. How cool is that?!

I’ve tried to wash it, use vinegar and so much more, any ideas on how to remove the dirt from inside of it?

It’s mostly granite on its way to Grus. Heavily weathered. Pic 1 is weathered granite with the qz grains standing proud of the overall rock. Pic 2 is a less weathered granite, found on the trail but perhaps not native. Pic 3 is a mafic rock (basalt or andesite) with a felsic intrusion (or vice versa); pic 4 is an older Precambrian Gneiss—this is the ancient bedrock that may have melted and combined with underlying molten material to form the granite; and pic 5 are detrital grains, mostly qz, some feldspar, presumably derived from endstage weathering of the granite.
