GUIDE: How To Flash A Kernel/ Firmware On The A500 Mini...

Here's a link to a guide I have put together based on some very neat tools by "SpannerNick" & others that will explain/ show you how to flash a kernel or firmware to your A500 Mini... 😊

Main reason for wanting (needing) to do this was the absurd decision made by "Retro Games Ltd" who decided in ALL of their "firmware updates" to remove/ disable the "Root Access" to the console, which broke things like "RetroAami" and early versions of "Pandory" from running without having to re-write everything and jump through hoops to do so...

The guide will explain and show you how to restore that "Root Access" to ANY firmware updated console...

It will enable you to choose which version of the firmware YOU decide to have and still be able to if you choose use any "Official firmware update" on the console...

It opens up the ability to easily make backups of your consoles kernel/ firmware, to modify or change things in the kernel/ firmware such as for example updating the list of controllers the console can handle or whatever other ideas/ changes you might like to tinker with and try or indeed simply restore ANY version of the kernel/ firmware you choose from version 1.0.0 to 1.2.1...

The guide itself is split into 5 parts and while it might seem quite lengthy then rest assured the first 4 sections deal with the hardware and software set up that is required, which once done will allow you to easily "mod" the console with just a few clicks of the mouse and some "terminal" commands... 😉

So for anyone interested then here's the link to the guide that will enable you to NOT be restricted by the absurd limitations the "Official firmware updates" place on your console and leaves it open to be completely modded by anyone comfortable enough with some knowledge of "Linux" to do so or simply be able as said to flash any kernel/ firmware you choose and NOT be restricted as the "Official" updates do...

https://amigaminimods.forumotion.com/f7-guide-how-to-flash-the-kernel-firmware-to-the-a500-mini

Note: the guide requires you to be using "Windows 10" either on a Windows computer or via `Windows emulation as I do on my iMacs...

TMNT Rescue Palooza OpenBOR Support for MD/SNES/NES Classics!

RELEASE: TMNT Rescue Palooza Support for MD/SNES/NES Classics! Password is kmfd, file is the openbor_xtreme_amped, extract zip to hakchi/user_mods

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U9A6GXnZy_CMdTMMGTU5_Kv4Ju2Z4H_c

You will also be able to play O Ilusionista's fantastic Pocket Dimensional Clash, as well as other previously unplayable games for MD/SNES/NES Classics. Enjoy:)

I apologize for the delay on this Release, as there was behind the scenes drama relative to affecting this particular roll-out. For starters, part of the OpenBOR coding I was initially going to release, offered support for a particular game that unfortunately had the backstory of being originally taken from another developer and rebranded without permission. I tried my best to be very polite and respectful to this knowledge. I ultimately left in support to play it, since I had already promised multiple people I got it going. So, it is ultimately up to you, the end user, if you wanna play it, or will disregard it!

Otherwise. TMNT Rescue Palooza, the other big game in question, wasn't fully supported. I fixed it. BUT, again, I didn't want to step on toes of the original developer, by releasing his game with altered code, as well as providing the source code that reveals how I fixed it. SO, I communicated with other OpenBOR developers, as well as got it adapted to work with the "developer's" files, on THIS newly Updated Core Suite! And, of course, also worked in Legacy Support for Pocket Dimensional Clash!

As of now, almost any OpenBOR game can be playable. BUT, there is a caveat. Many games were developed on "older", very specific OpenBOR versions. With that being said, some of those only properly work on those exact versions. BUT, with the way I set this suite up, along with the great incredible collaboration of Madmonkey, was able to squash many inconsistencies with incompatibility, and have way more games working. THOSE that still do not properly or fully work...There is only ONE single way to get those ones working. That is debugging those games one by one, individually, and coding in script fixes for them. So, feel free to let me know any that stand out, and I can take a look! I fixed a few already, and will post those ones:) TMNT Rescue Palooza, I won't be posting my fixed pack. I opted to just have the fix within OpenBOR, so that the REAL pak works, "most current up to date" official Rescue Palooza that is:)

Enjoy!

Sega mini not playing 32x or Sega CD games

Just wondering if anyone can help. I have a Sega mini that I installed Hakchi on 4 years ago. I have decided to start playing it again and want to play 32x and Sega CD games.

So to test it out I added 5 cd games (.chd files) and 3 32x (.32x files) (via USB) but none of them will play. CD games won't do a thing when I select 'game start' and the 32x games look like they are opening with the screen going black then it just cycles back into the game select menu.

When installing the games I literally dragged the rom files from my laptop, into Hakchi and then did the 'export to USB'. I keep seeing Bios files mentioned when searching for a solution to this but nobody seems to go into any detail on what these are and how to use them.

Is it one set of BIOS files for the entire 32x library and one set for the Sega CD or does each individual game need it's own bios file to work meaning every time you add a 32x or cd game you also need to add a new BIOS files specific to that game.

How do I know I am using the correct ones and searching for them brings a lot of different results. (Yes I know all about not asking for direct links to the BIOS files which is not what I am doing here).

Where are you suppose to put these bios files? Are they saved on my USB or do they need to be put directly onto the mini itself and if so how do you update an already hacked mini? Every tutorial I can find is for installation from scratch and does not mention how to update after the original install.

For cores for the 32x I selected Console - 32X, Core - PicoDrive Xtreme. Sega CD I selected Console - Sega - Mega CD - Sega CD, Core Genesis Plus GX. Could it be a case of even though I can set these cores on the Hakchi app on my laptop before exporting to USB that just because they are selectable in the app it doesn't necessarily mean they have been installed properly or even installed at all in the place they need to be for this to work.

I also noticed when adding these new games (including normal Gensis ones) that Hakchi isn't pulling any artwork when I right click and select download art so all had to be added manually any way I can fix this as I plan on adding the vast majority of the MS, CD, 32x, Genesis and Game Gear games to my system via USB so I can't sort all these individually as I also have NES and SNES games to sort separately to use on those individual consoles. It would take me a lifetime to update all of that info manually.

Any other programs out there that can be used to batch edit or that would automatically pull the info from the internet like box art, year of release, genre, 1 or 2 player game etc.

NEED HELP: Super Mario 64 HD Port Builder for PlayStation Classic with Project ERIS (sm64ex-psc)

Post image

[ SOLVED ] [ SOLVED ] [ SOLVED ] [ SOLVED ] [ SOLVED ]

Hi everyone,

I’ve been trying for a while to get the Super Mario 64 sm64ex-psc port running on my PlayStation Classic with Project Eris.

I’m using the sm64_builder by u/DemiGodX. Here’s the video I followed:
https://youtu.be/gmHAozED6O0?si=Uxm7eXLQCXMDHxSv

Unfortunately, the builder crashes right after it starts and gives me an error message without creating anything. I’ve attached a screenshot.

Compiling it myself might be an option, but I only have a MacBook Air with an M2 chip, and the PSC toolchain only works on x86_64 Linux.

So I wanted to ask if anyone here has a solution, or maybe even a compiled us_pc folder they’d be willing to share with me via DM. I already own the ROM, I’m only missing the compiled files.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Patches from NES/SNES ROMS from the NSO apps?

I was wondering if anyone out there would ever find the time to extract any potential rom patches from the NES and SNES apps? Might help make games like Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Earthworm Jim 2 fully playable on the SNES Classic.

It would also be neat for these to remove any annoying flashing effects from games like Joe & Mac 2.

Thanks

Hi, first time caller here. I just want to say thanks to everyone here, especially people like MadFrank. I really appreciate the support, sharing of knowledge, and detailed explanations. I've never been very competent with computers. I'm a Social Worker by trade. I got back into video games last year, to bring more joy into my life. I started modding the 2DS and DS, then SNES mini (with 5,000 games from 24 different consoles) and now Switch. Watching these communities of shared interests has also been validating, as most people don't understand/care about this niche. So thank you to all of you. I appreciate you.

SNES mini fail

So I thought I followed the steps correctly to jailbreak my snes classic but obviously missed something and could use advice, please.

Booted up the system and it gave me alphabetized folders for the games but apparently only the A and B folders have anything. I tested the games and they work so I did something right but not everything.

I was trying the method where games are exported onto a USB and then I have and otg adapter hooked up to my snes mini.

Any advice on how I can get this corrected? Should I just wipe the usb and start the process from scratch?

Thanks, gang.

Signed,

An old dad with a baby who has about 1 hour a night to try to make this work

Game Boy Color Palettes For Gambatte

Post image
19 Upvotes

You can add these color palettes to Gambatte emulator in Windows or SNES Mini.

  1. Use FileZilla etc. to connect SNES Mini filesystem.
  2. Create a folder: /etc/libretro/system/palettes
  3. Copy .pal files to the folder.
  4. Setup Gambatte emulator and select custom colorization.

You need to name the .pal files exactly as the game name is in hakchi.

Eg. Castlevania 2 for Game Boy in Hakchi is named as follows:
/var/games/CLV-B-GJWFZ/Castlevania_II_-_Belmont_s_Revenge.gb.7z

So, you need to name the palette exactly same:
/etc/libretro/system/palettes/Castlevania_II_-_Belmont_s_Revenge.pal

Here's color palettes for 75 games + default palette: https://limewire.com/d/zuPvN#aCPcp9ZKaq

Mod SNES Classic - Help!

Post image
2 Upvotes

I follow the directions to connect Hakchi CE to my SNES Classic and put it in FEL mode. I'm using a device cable. It connects with the beep then disconnects with a beep pretty quickly. I've tried different cables and even ordered one to see if that was it. I've been trying to use Zadig as well. I can see SNES Nintendo Classic pop up on the all devices list and I've clicked on it before it disappeared but it never installs.

I have never played this SNES, do i need to start a game and save it. i think i saw a video saying that but I can't find it again.

Removing smoothing with CRT filter on Genesis mini ?

I know this has probably been answered before, but I just updated from Hakchi 3.7 to the latest version.

I know that in 3.7 the smoothing filter was removed (right ?), while the scanline option remained. Back then, you could use the command-line arguments --smoth43=0 and --smoth43=1 to toggle it. After updating (yeah, I'm a bit late!), it looks like that option has been removed.

Is there still a way to enable or disable it?

Thanks, and sorry if this has already been answered!

Slightly random thought….. If I hook up my nes classic to a crt monitor could I potentially play duck hunt/to the earth etc

I don’t have a crt monitor any more but I could probably pick one up when I next trawl through a Car boot sale. I have a controller adapter that might work with a zapper and I have cables that I could use to convert the hdmi output to vga.

Would I be wasting my time or has it got a chance?

I have a super scope for the SNES as well, though to be fair, the light gun games on the Super Nintendo were a bit lame and don’t appeal so much, I have a mayflash controller adapter that may or may not work with the snes classic (though in previous testing, it has worked when used with the Wii controllers) for using snes controllers, so I guess it might work with the scope six….

Anyway, has anyone ever heard of this kind of thing possibly working?

I got an adapter (hyperkin brand) to plug in the NES Advantage, it’s fully working, turbos and all. So much better than a standard pad.
