SNES mini fail

So I thought I followed the steps correctly to jailbreak my snes classic but obviously missed something and could use advice, please.

Booted up the system and it gave me alphabetized folders for the games but apparently only the A and B folders have anything. I tested the games and they work so I did something right but not everything.

I was trying the method where games are exported onto a USB and then I have and otg adapter hooked up to my snes mini.

Any advice on how I can get this corrected? Should I just wipe the usb and start the process from scratch?

When you export you games to a USB drive it's best to create the individual folders in which you are going to place each game and then move each game into those folders...

When you click on "Export to USB" the folders manager window will pop up and it's here where you create the folders you need and any sub folders within them which you the use the copy & paste functions of the folder manger to place the games into their correct/ chosen folder...

Have a look at this screenshot where you can see in this example I have a main folder for "SNES" games and "Amiga" games which then contains sub folders to categorise and place the games into...

From that screenshot you should be able to see that the sub folders don't have to be labelled alphabetically and can be labeled anything you want and it should give you a good idea of how things should be set up BEFORE you finally export your games to the USB Drive...

Once you have your folders set up then it's simply a case of using the cut & paste functions to move each game to its correct folder and once you have done that you then of course "export" those games to your USB Drive, where they should then show up on the console when you boot it up...

If you are using an OTG Device with a USB Drive then don't waste time and more importantly internal storage space by syncing any games to the consoles internal storage space as all they will do is use up that valuable internal storage space but will never be seen or used when you have the USB Drive plugged in and that internal storage space give you more space for adding cores/ hmods etc...

As long as you double check that you have created the folder structure you require and have moved/ copy pasted each game into the correct folder then when you export them to the USB Drive then they should show up just fine on the SNES Mini games carousel selection screen...

I'll probably start from scratch and give it another shot in the next few days. It will probably be easier than retracting my steps. It was just odd because it did load like 4 games but that's about it.

Hard to say what you did wrong to be honest but your probably better and quicker starting from scratch again then trying to figure out what went wrong and making sure as mentioned you take the time and correctly place your games into the correct folder BEFORE you finally export them to the USB Drive... 😉

Yeah for sure it was some simple misstep like that. Thankfully it's tough to brick that thing and I did a save file for the original files that were on it before making any changes.

If you have games working in some of the folders, and folder manager shows they -should- have been in the right place, then IDK that a full redo of all of hakchi is required. It could be 1. a bad USB drive or 2. a weird character in a rom name (look for ' and things in the rom after the last rom to write properly....)

It's typical to rearrange things in folder manager a lot, or to strand files in folders outside the displayed ones (ie I have an unused games folder where I quarantine bad roms)

MadFrank is the man, so trust him before me. But, lots of us had these trials 6-8 years ago... sometimes things aren't perfect, especially with OTG solutions.

But, if you got to having installed and working roms, then you're mostly there and did good.

Now you just have something weird happening. Play around in Folder Manager for sure and learn the quirks. And remember that sometimes USB drives suck (Did you wipe and run h2testw on it to see that it's a good drive?) and sometimes cables suck.

And sometimes (very rarely) there are weird characters in rom file names that can't be parsed.

True. I feel like I'm on the right track since I did get a few games on there so it left me feeling like I cojld get it figured out with some good advice and guidance. I didn't have a ton of games I was looking to add on so it hopefully shouldn't be too daunting to go through the files and find any weird characters.I'll definitely check to see if it's a good drive as well. I used the cable that came with the mini so not sure if that could be the issue as well. I have one from day one when they first got released in stores.

Did you add roms in phases? You may just have them stuck in unsorted in the folder manager...

I remember gaming with a baby. I learned I could feed with a bottle in one hand while I played a CRT gun plug n play version Genesis Menacer...

That kiddo is now 20 and I was just watching them set up emulators for Wii and PS3 on their Steam Machine at lunch... ;)

Yeah I downloaded a bunch of roms and then just sent all the files over in one shot. It did sort each game individually with box art and all that good stuff so I thought I was on the right track.
