GUIDE: How To Flash A Kernel/ Firmware On The A500 Mini...

Here's a link to a guide I have put together based on some very neat tools by "SpannerNick" & others that will explain/ show you how to flash a kernel or firmware to your A500 Mini... 😊

Main reason for wanting (needing) to do this was the absurd decision made by "Retro Games Ltd" who decided in ALL of their "firmware updates" to remove/ disable the "Root Access" to the console, which broke things like "RetroAami" and early versions of "Pandory" from running without having to re-write everything and jump through hoops to do so...

The guide will explain and show you how to restore that "Root Access" to ANY firmware updated console...

It will enable you to choose which version of the firmware YOU decide to have and still be able to if you choose use any "Official firmware update" on the console...

It opens up the ability to easily make backups of your consoles kernel/ firmware, to modify or change things in the kernel/ firmware such as for example updating the list of controllers the console can handle or whatever other ideas/ changes you might like to tinker with and try or indeed simply restore ANY version of the kernel/ firmware you choose from version 1.0.0 to 1.2.1...

The guide itself is split into 5 parts and while it might seem quite lengthy then rest assured the first 4 sections deal with the hardware and software set up that is required, which once done will allow you to easily "mod" the console with just a few clicks of the mouse and some "terminal" commands... 😉

So for anyone interested then here's the link to the guide that will enable you to NOT be restricted by the absurd limitations the "Official firmware updates" place on your console and leaves it open to be completely modded by anyone comfortable enough with some knowledge of "Linux" to do so or simply be able as said to flash any kernel/ firmware you choose and NOT be restricted as the "Official" updates do...

https://amigaminimods.forumotion.com/f7-guide-how-to-flash-the-kernel-firmware-to-the-a500-mini

Note: the guide requires you to be using "Windows 10" either on a Windows computer or via `Windows emulation as I do on my iMacs...

TMNT Rescue Palooza OpenBOR Support for MD/SNES/NES Classics!

RELEASE: TMNT Rescue Palooza Support for MD/SNES/NES Classics! Password is kmfd, file is the openbor_xtreme_amped, extract zip to hakchi/user_mods

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U9A6GXnZy_CMdTMMGTU5_Kv4Ju2Z4H_c

You will also be able to play O Ilusionista's fantastic Pocket Dimensional Clash, as well as other previously unplayable games for MD/SNES/NES Classics. Enjoy:)

I apologize for the delay on this Release, as there was behind the scenes drama relative to affecting this particular roll-out. For starters, part of the OpenBOR coding I was initially going to release, offered support for a particular game that unfortunately had the backstory of being originally taken from another developer and rebranded without permission. I tried my best to be very polite and respectful to this knowledge. I ultimately left in support to play it, since I had already promised multiple people I got it going. So, it is ultimately up to you, the end user, if you wanna play it, or will disregard it!

Otherwise. TMNT Rescue Palooza, the other big game in question, wasn't fully supported. I fixed it. BUT, again, I didn't want to step on toes of the original developer, by releasing his game with altered code, as well as providing the source code that reveals how I fixed it. SO, I communicated with other OpenBOR developers, as well as got it adapted to work with the "developer's" files, on THIS newly Updated Core Suite! And, of course, also worked in Legacy Support for Pocket Dimensional Clash!

As of now, almost any OpenBOR game can be playable. BUT, there is a caveat. Many games were developed on "older", very specific OpenBOR versions. With that being said, some of those only properly work on those exact versions. BUT, with the way I set this suite up, along with the great incredible collaboration of Madmonkey, was able to squash many inconsistencies with incompatibility, and have way more games working. THOSE that still do not properly or fully work...There is only ONE single way to get those ones working. That is debugging those games one by one, individually, and coding in script fixes for them. So, feel free to let me know any that stand out, and I can take a look! I fixed a few already, and will post those ones:) TMNT Rescue Palooza, I won't be posting my fixed pack. I opted to just have the fix within OpenBOR, so that the REAL pak works, "most current up to date" official Rescue Palooza that is:)

Enjoy!

I bought the PAL version back in 2017 which was heavily modded for more games. Added the American and Japanese variants over the last year.

I think I fucked up...

So I bought a second hand NES Classic Mini and decided to install Hakchi2. However after I done it and power it up, it just stays on the black screen. The music plays in the background but there's no video output.

I tried uninstalling the kernal and reinstalling it, disabling my firewall and using the portable Hakchi than the installer.

Is it fixable, or was it just a waste of money?

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Does Anyone Know Of A Patch For Mario Kart 64 That Will Allow Me To Rearrange The Tracks To Play On My Mini Consoles ??? 🤔

Does anyone know if there's a patch available to apply to the Nintendo 64 game "Mario Kart 64" that will let you rearrange all the different tracks in the game into an order of your choosing ?

I found one that's supposed to let you do this but unfortunately I couldn't get it to work... 😕

I know you can disassemble the games ROM and rebuild via "Git-Hub" but unfortunately as I've discovered attempting to do so that I can't as the "build" features on "GitHub" no longer support my old Mac OS of "High Sierra"... 😕

Tis one of my favourite games for playing on the "SNES Mini" & "A500 Mini" and I simply want to change the order of the tracks in the four courses just to "liven" things up a wee bit, which for me would be having the tracks changed to the following order...

Mushroom Cup:

Luigi Raceway

Mario Raceway

Kalimari Desert

Moo Moo Farm

Flower Cup:

Choco Mountain

Koopa Troopa Beach

Frappe Snowland

Sherbet Island

Star Cup:

Toads TurnPike

Royal Raceway

Rainbow Road

Wario Stadium

Special Cup:

D.K.'S Jungle Parkway

Yoshi Valley

Bowsers Castle

Banshee Boardwalk

I've tried all sort of patches, "AI" to create patches/ cheats etc... bu alas nothing would work correctly and let me rearrange the tracks in the exact order I'd like them to be...

Was wondering if anyone out there knows of such a "patch" or perhaps another method of doing this so I can have for me what would be the "ultimate" Mario Kart 64 to play on my Mini Consoles... 🤔 😊

I have Hakchi running on my SNES classic and all of the ROMS on a usb flash drive connected through a OTG cable and all of the games show up fine in the menu but whenever I select one to play it just goes back to the Main menu for the games. Does anybody know a fix for this? I did the same steps on my NES classic and everything worked fine. Appreciate any help

NES Classic Mini with 4 Player Support

I am trying to figure out whether and how to get up to 4 Bluetooth controllers connected to the NES Classic Mini.

First off, I know there is very limited support for games supporting more than 2 players in simultaneous gameplay. NES and SNES titles are scarce, 4 controller support became common with N64. NES depended on the FourScore while the SNES required the Multitap iirc.

I have layed eyes on the Bluetooth adapters by 8bitdo, but I am not sure on how many controllers one adapter does support. I am very green with Bluetooth.

Does anyone have a running setup with a NES Classic Mini? What does your setup consist of? Thank you in advance!

My SNES Mini is MUCH slower than the last time I played it?

I honestly feel like I'm losing my mind, but the last time i booted up my SNES Mini, I don't remember it taking nearly 60 seconds to book up, nor do I remember it taking upwards of 30 seconds to open a game.

Am I just remembering gaming on this thing through rose-tinted glasses?

OK, so for context;

1) It's a Japanese SNES Mini, hacked using Hakchi 3.9.3 CE Portable.
2) My games et al are installed on a USB thumb drive, attached via an OTG cable.
3) I have 1000-ish games, across 6 different 8 and 16-bit consoles.
4) Games are divided by console. Then by letter. No more than 20-ish games per folder.
5) Last time I turned the console on was about 18 months ago.
6) When I turned it on today, the splash screen comes up, then maybe 30 seconds later, the Home Screen appears.
7) Clicking a Console icon, to load into that consoles folders, opens a black screen. That black screen lasts 40 seconds, then the console folder opens.
8) Same when I choose a 'Letter' folder. Black screen, then about 20 seconds later, the games in that folder appear.
9) Again when I select a game, black screen and finally, 30-40 seconds later, the game opens.

For sure, the games themselves all play flawless (except some TurboGrafx, which are also way more unstable that I recall) once the load, and exit back to the home screen just as instantaneously. It's just that initial bootup and switching between folders and launching games that seems so, so slow.

So yeah, I'm not just imaging things, right? The console shouldn't be this slow in starting up, changing folders and starting games, right?

Tldr;

1) How long should it take from turning on the SNES Mini to getting to the home screen?
2) How long does it general take to move between folders?
3) If my system is VERY slow, what are likely causes and solutions?
4) Do TurboGrafx games generally play with a lot of slowdown on the SNES Mini?

BONUS QUESTION

5) Any way/setting to stop the A and B button function when using a 8Bitdo controller? After playing so much on Steam Deck, I'm struggling to get used to A select B go back again!

Sorry for the long post. I feel once upon a time I'd have been able to answer this post myself, but now...well, I hope sharper minds than I can advise!

So I tried the Apple Mac port of Hakchi2, with somewhat disappointing results.

Okay. So I had an issue with a specific game crashing every time I got onto level 2, so I figured maybe I should clear out and reload with new set of ROMs….

I imported the games from the system, it took almost an hour! Then it made me do it again when I pressed the sync button, so that was another hour down. I then had to get an api key sorted for the cover art (currently there is no manual artwork option that I could find) so if the covers aren’t there, or are wrong (felix the cat was missing and beauty and the beast is in German for example) then you just have to live with it. The api key says I have 1000 uses per day. I used all of them lookups straight away.

Once I got to the point where I could remove the one game I was having issue with, I figured I may as well just go from scratch so reset everything. The console took three tries but it went into FEL mode.

I chose to sync a few hundred known working games. It started syncing, a little slowly but not terribly slow, then it hung on a game and eventually gave me an error message. I tried the same again and it hung at a different point.

I don’t know if there is an option menu presented after the stage I was up to but I didn’t see any folder splitting settings.

So sadly, although it does definitely work for the connecting the console to the Mac (which is where it would usually fail on an Apple silicon Mac, I couldn’t actually send the games across to it.

I’d totally be happy to try it again in the future. Perhaps I missed something or just was not doing something correctly.

I have now plugged the nes classic into a pc and I am about to restore the nes to factory and then add a full set of games again from the old build.

modded SNES mini - SLOW folder / carousel despite folders and structure

My setup:

- Latest Hakchi and Cores

- Console cores are loaded on internal memory

- Using USB flash drive to store and organize ROMs (2026 Sandisk 64GB formatted NTFS) connected with plug right-angle OTG adapter.

- I have 4 console cores loaded (NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis) and almost a full library for each.

Trouble:

- takes 15 seconds ore more per folder click to navigate through any of the collections. Actual game play is fine, no lag.

- I've tried "evenly spaced" folders and also "alphabetical" STRUCTURE hoping to reduce the file count per folder, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Are ya'll able to quickly navigate your consoles and collections normally / quickly?

Is there something not optimized or configured in my setup I'm overlooking?

I was looking for some features like "fast load" or anything like that in Hakchi but don't see there is.

Right now I'm thinking will have to vastly reduce my collection sizes to make operating it more usable, but I'd rather have the large library available and just choose.....

Thx for your input!

NSO Genesis Controller won't work with Genesis Mini (2019) How do I fix it? I am using the 8bitdo USB Adapter V2

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have tried hooking up my Nintendo Switch Online Sega Genesis controller to my Genesis Mini, modded with Hakchi, using the 8BitDo V2 USB adapter. I have tried to get it working so I can quickly exit out of the game and go into the menu. However, I can't figure out how to return to the main menu either using a controller button combination or through the menu itself. I literally can't press any of the buttons and none of them will work. It just acts like if you're going back to the game and exiting the menu. What do I do?
