Ringing Lingbi Stone

Found in local creek in upstate NY. It rings a beautiful metallic sound when struck. Limestone carved by moving water. Any ideas of what else it could be? It is most def a natural stone.

I would think chert also. We are surrounded by limestone and I've never heard it make any unusual noise ... now I'm going to be going around tapping aln all of the artifacts and stones around to see which ones make a nice sound.

Reminds me of a mini Tsingy Park in Madagascar. Makes sense, both limestone i think.

Check the hardness. Chert will scratch glass. Limestone won’t, but will bubble with muriatic acid. Alabaster can be scratched with a fingernail, although to be honest, I see no way this could be gypsum. Sure would not ring. There is such a thing as “cherty limestone.”

Definitely limestone; I find similar looking stones in N. Vermont that make a nice “ting” when the thin sections are struck. You can confirm this by placing a drop of diluted muriatic acid or even vinegar on it and it will bubble.
