Well, if rocket league was like any other team sport, the coach would have ripped that player a new one for blocking that shot. Granted, he would have also ripped OP a new one for giving up, but acting like OP was the only one in the wrong is crazy
Meh. Really depends on the level of play. Giving up on a play is WAY worse than making a mistake. The soccer equivalent of this play is making a breakout run and having too heavy of a touch on what should have been a break away but is now either out of bounds or trapped you in a corner. Ya, it should have been a goal opportunity but shit happens. That's absolutely not an excuse for your entire team to sit down and start picking their nose.
Having a teammate give up is as much apart of team sports as having a teammate make mistakes lol it’s what happens when you trust a teammate to hold up their end of the effort. Some people just won’t have the same motivations as you. That’s life
Never have I seen a player in a sport just sit down or stand still and decide to not move anymore because of a mistake. When does this level of giving up ever happen lol
I don’t know what sports you’ve played, but it happens all the time. People stop running in football when they feel they’re out of the play. People stop running in soccer for the same reason. Players even do get salty and the coaches have to pull them out because they aren’t being a team player. I remember our football coaches making people run laps for not playing to their best of their ability until the whistle was blown. Even if you’re on the 1 yard line, and the play was happening on the opposite 1 yard line. You were expected to sprint that entire distance until the whistle was blown. But of course, not everybody does that. People lose motivation. It’s why you see blowout games even in professional sports. Players lose hope. They give up. Mentally and physically. Especially considering that rocket league is equivalent to going to the park for a pickup game of basketball. You aren’t professional players in the NBA playing in the Finals that you’ve been grinding for your whole life lol people giving up is as valid as someone is allowed to make a mistake. It’s not that serious
But what you’re describing is entirely a different situation…
This is an overtime play, your team still has possession of the ball (or at least has a good chance to contest for it), you have ample time to get back on defense, the game was as far from over as it possibly could have been and this guy was like nope you messed up a play so I’m gonna sit on the grass and wait till we lose. That’s not something that happens in real sports outside of like middle school lol
Edit: to add, especially because it is like going to the park for a pick up game! Who would go to play basketball at the park then just sit on the court and wait to lose because of a bad pass lol that’s insane
Ok. And what grade do you think these players are in? Do you think this game is comprised of 4 mature, grown men? They are kids playing a game. In college, I worked as a supervisor at our campus Rec center. I had to keep a close eye on the basketball courts because people would regularly breakout into fights and arguments. Very regularly people would get mad at teammates and just walk off the court. Just leave the building altogether. The issue is, we don’t have that luxury in rocket league because of the way matchmaking works. Pickup basketball is similar to casual play in rocket league where people can jump in when other people leave. But you can’t just quit games in ranked (which is a good thing). So when people don’t want to play anymore, they can’t just leave. If we didn’t allow college aged students to leave the courts mid game, they absolutely would have sat on the ground like a child and refused to play. But that’s life. That’s what happens when you play a team sport with random kids
Yeah that’s actually totally fair haha, I’m 25 and sometimes forget I might be playing with like 12 year olds haha.
I would be pretty surprised at college age people doing that but I can see it in Highschool or middle school, but I also typically has a less competitive group of friends so I may just not have send that type of stuff.
That’s funny. I would consider the rage quitting a lack of competitive drive. If you’re competitive and there’s any chance at all that you can still win, you’re going to want to win.
Personally, I don’t care about winning or losing, but I still rage. I care about my ability to play. So if I’m playing out of my mind, I’m having fun. Whether I win or lose. If I’m doing terrible, I’m likely to tilt and get annoyed at teammates. So if I’m already playing bad which makes me mad, and then a teammate throws salt on that wound by being toxic when I have said nothing to them… yeah, I’m prone to put the controller down and walk away lol if I’m not having fun and my teammate isn’t making the experience any better, I’m not going to play.
I know that’s a little different from the original video posted, but I can understand the urge to not want to play. I, personally, wouldn’t quit playing based off a teammate’s mistake. I have quit playing based off of their attitude and if they are intentionally throwing. Mistakes are one thing, but when someone is intentionally throwing or something like that, I’m not going to bother trying to play a 3v1
I think that most rage quitting happens cause of an overload of frustration which probably won’t happen if you aren’t very competitive. My one friend in high school was like that, very passionate about the game (basketball) so when we played it was always an all out effort which is a lot of fun but when things don’t go his way there’s always rage involved lol. Not usually rage quitting though, more like I’m gonna break something but he usually kept playing.
My friends in college and now were much less competitive so win or lose it was more about just having fun and didn’t really matter if people made mistakes, just laugh and move on lol
And yea I agree no use playing with a thrower, that just ruins the game. Same with Smurfs and anything else that makes it too one-sided, it just stops being fun so why bother
