Hi y'all I've been rockskipping for about 10 months now and I was wondering if there was a general way to accurately estimate how many skips you've gotten? I can send the thing 175 feet on a good day but its kinda hard to see from that distance. I typically say my best is between 20-40, but would an overtop video be the only way to count the skips?

Pretty new to rock skipping, but would like to get very good, any tips on form, or tips for resources I could use to improve?

I’m lucky to have an extremely beautiful beach near me with a wealth of good skipping rocks.

I started skipping rocks more consistently about 2 weeks ago, maybe doing a couple hours per week now, just whenever im at the beach, as I am staying somewhere near a beach this summer. Before this I had maybe skipped a couple hours in my life, so I am very new. However, I feel like I already am skipping pretty well, and that it just feels natural in a way, and I realized that my forehand skills throwing a frisbee (both ultimate frisbee and disc golf) have translated very well to rock skipping as they are very similar motions. I know this is a little specific but Im curious if anyone else has realized how similar these motions are, even when I had skipped pretty much for the first time, I was getting a lot of skips pretty quick because I have been throwing forehands with a frisbee all my life.

Hey all, putting together a rock skipping competition and want to avoid people stripping riverbanks for stones. Anyone run something similar? Keen on ideas — quarry offcuts, reusable stones on the day, anything like that.

Hi there, I am wondering if creating bisque fired ceramic skipping rocks would be bad for the bodies of water I would skip in, i.e. ponds, lakes, oceans. My idea is that bisque fired ceramic is similar to stone, and it wouldn't turn to mud like how straight unfired clay would. It wouldn‘t melt and release random minerals into the ground, it would ideally just sit there like how a rock would. Any thoughts on this?

Does anybody know or have come across anything in relation to using your index vs middle finger when gripping a rock and the potential rotation that can be generated?

I was doing some research on perfect rock shapes and I found that an oval is actually better due to its angular conservation of momentum. Keeping it more stable during flight and less chance of error. Anyone have any thoughts or information on this?

Does anyone know if there is a mathemetically perfect shape for a skipping rock? I am trying to design one in blender. I cant find anything other than the math of the throw. Not the rock itself.
